Re: The New Joke Thread

An angel appears to a man in a dream...

The angel offers him a choice - He can have the Wisdom of Solomon, or $50,000,000. Believing that this was a test from God, the man chooses Wisdom.

The next morning, the man is having breakfast with his friends and he recants the story to them. When he’s finished, one friend says, “If you’re so wise now, then tell us some words of wisdom.”

The man says, “I should have taken the money.”

I don't think there are any young and impressionable sailors around here. I bet the youngest sailor on this website is 50, with the median age probably being closer to one foot in the grave.

This thread is running for close to forever.

I suppose that there will eventually be the Newer Joke Thread at some point.

Got to agree, it is not for the sensitive; rubs boundaries of many sorts, as to the diversity of what is perceived humorous, but there does not appear to be malice in the telling and one has to enter the thread with light heartedness. In that regard, this thread kind of reminds me how the Catholic priests and monsieurs were always glad to hear or tell a new Pope joke and were confident enough to on occasion to state a select one during a sermon. Pope and priest jokes were readily told when they were attending as guests to regular dinner parties my family would host when I was growing up. But they were very cautious about jokes about Nuns, a no nunsense subject [pun intended].

Exactly.

So who would want to be memorialized in perpetuity as whining over "coarse language" or a joke they didn't get or like?

When I bought my Duramax in 2002, GM set a max towing capacity for the drive train and subtracted from that as the truck got heavier. So if you bought a 2500HD single cab 2wd SB, you got something like 15,500 lb towing cap. If you got a crew cab, your towing cap. went down 500 lbs, to 15,000 lbs, which is what I have. If you got the longer bed, your towing cap. was reduced by the extra weight of the long bed, 4wd further reduced your towing cap., etc. 3500 duallies had even lower towing cap. due to the extra wheel/tire weight.

So I needed the crew cab for my dogs, coolers, etc but I was willing to settle for a short bed to retain the towing cap. Nowadays, they rate the towing cap. based on braking power, gearing, hp, suspension cap. etc and a 3500 is actually rated for more towing cap. even though it has the same engine and trans as the 2500.

More power!!

I know, I had an 01 remember? C3500. I used to tow a JD410 on occasion and grossed I think about 24,000 lbs. maybe it was more because the Backhoe weighed 15,000 or so, then of course there was the truck and trailer.
Rating is irrelevant, I have never, ever heard of a farm truck being ticketed for overweight or weighed for that matter. I’d bet they don’t have to meet the regs.
It’s illegal to transport more than 55 gl of fuel in a container for example, unless your a farm truck.

What did the short bed get you 200lbs? Do you think the shorter wheel base was safer pulling heavy? What about the single rear wheels, were they safer?
