Re: The New Joke Thread

This is apparently pretty much a censorship free zone.

So maybe use "report" if you **really** object, but IMO

public statements about what is or isn't funny, or is or isn't offensive,

are just useless noise diluting the funny ratio even further.

There is a fine line between humor and tragedy. It’s all in ones mind. Some laugh at lies, and others at truths. Some at stupidity, some at depravity.

Don’t be offended, just consider the source.

Re: The New Joke Thread

If someone is telling you a joke in real life, they know from your natural reaction whether it's gone down well or not. So written criticism on an Internet forum fulfils the same function and is absolutely fine to me. It is certainly not censorship, merely comment, nor is it a censure of the poster. It may help the poster to consider what is and is not funny. This is an instance where 'like' and 'not like' buttons would be useful, I think.

Re: The New Joke Thread

I try really, really hard not to fill up the Joke Thread with non-joke opinion.

But I have to defend the "dunking" joke. I laughed out loud. My wife came over, looked over my shoulder, and laughed out loud.

So, in our house, it's a 100% funny joke. I won't waste any space here on the theories of humor, but the dichotomy between the image and the last line was right out of a textbook.

Oh, and if you have a joke which degenerates my race, religion, country of origin, height, weight, hair color or any other attribute, and you think it's funny, let's hear it. I assure you, if I'm offended I'll find a way to deal with it.

This is where a "like" button would be very helpful. We could provide that feedback mentioned above, without having to write a missive like this.

Now I'm confused. I thought the "not tiny little bit funny" comments were follow-ups to Lake Superior's shrinking guy joke.

Re: The New Joke Thread

Some people are like 'slinkys', they are just more fun when you push them down stairs.
Some find that funny
Some do not...
It's my belief that those who find it funny are thinking of those who don't while they are laughing.

I still remember 2019 like it was yesterday.

Happy New Year!

Re: The New Joke Thread

I can imagine a person who as a young child, witnessed a bag full of kittens being drowned, would see no humor in that joke.

We are all victims of our own perceptions, both good and bad..... So humor even when it brings back painful memories can be cathartic.

Re: The New Joke Thread

My friend asked me where I see myself in the new year.
How would I know? I don't have 2020 vision.
