Without anyone's help, I created mints that each weigh 1/16 of a pound...
I make my own announcemints now.

Your choice. Buy the cheap stuff that was deposited naturally, millions of years before we started polluting the oceans. Or pay more for the stuff which was artificially evaporated out of today's dirty oceans.

Actually while all salt came from the sea years ago there are 3 different ways of harvesting salt.
Rock Salt generally comes from mining.
Most table salt comes from solution mining, wells are erected over salt beds or domes (deposits of salt forced up out of the earth by tectonic pressure) and water is injected to dissolve the salt. Then the salt solution, or brine, is pumped out and taken to a plant for evaporation. At the plant, the brine is treated to remove minerals and pumped into vacuum pans, sealed containers in which the brine is boiled and then evaporated until the salt is left behind. Then it is dried and refined. Depending on the type of salt it will be, iodine and an anti-clumping agent are added to the salt.
Finally today's consumer sea salt which is done the old fashion way of harvesting from salt pans. By the way this produces the almost pure sodium chloride.

Re: The New Joke Thread
Then there is the California way, pump water out of San Francisco Bay and let it evaporate in the sun, that way you keep whatever was in the water, in the salt
Not that there is anything in the Bay except for pure water of course.

Re: The New Joke Thread
I dunno if the site software got upgraded, or Tapatalk on my end, but suddenly all the graphics are auto-rendering without needing to "view in browser"!
Thanks to whoever is responsible.
Of course with this thread it's quite the mixed blessing 8-)
