I try never to take life too seriously but this statement is somewhat paradoxical. Are you saying it's OK to offend women and minorities but not to offend religious or politic orientation? Not looking for a fight but that does seem a little patriarchal. I can understand a64's comment as a member who happens to also be a moderator.

Politics and Religion lead the pack in the millions killed in their name.

Feelings run very deep in those two "beliefs" so it is wise advice to avoid stirring those bloody pots.

Since 4 of the 10 most active moderators are women I would have to say it's not so much patriarchal as parental. You should be more careful about what pejoratives you try to sling at folks.

Sounds good Jim, but does that mean we should simply turn a blind eye to every critical statement crafted in the name of humor?

I think not, as it would quickly break down social constructs of compassion and protection of the identity and feelings of individuals

We have this concept of "restraint" formulated on the idea that nothing good comes from an excessive beating down of others. (even when done with a feather)
