If I stay on plan it will be 9 years from when I got the idea till I go cruising. This includes almost 3 years from when I got the idea till I even sit foot on my first sailboat. I only learned to sail in order to go crusing, which I call travelling.

I'm not really very good at waiting I've dreamed of sailing my entire life but it hasn't been until this year that I've actually set a goal. It will probably be 3 years until I can start cruising, but I can manage it (with a lot more difficulty) in two if I get really impatient

Unhappy Sooner rather than later... I hope

I've been dreaming of sailing for years (about 30), narrowed it down to a catamaran during a day trip in the Dominican 2-3 years ago and I figure I've probably got about 26 more years before I can make it happen.

56 Year Plan

At least if I'm not prepared by then I have only myself to blame. If the admiral and I can make it happen sooner we will but it's not looking likely at this point.

I'm currently 6 months into a 6 year plan, mostly waiting on kids growing up.

Dream started in 2003 I guess, not for cruising, I had no idea then what that was, but just wanting to learn how to sail. But, we moved away from any large bodies of water that same summer and didn't return until 2006.

Learned to sail in July of 2007, second time ever being on a sailboat, we did a week long "Learn-N-Cruise" ASA Bareboat charter course out in the San Juan islands of Washington state.

Sailed on other people's boats for a year gaining experience, and even got a volunteer position as a skipper on a 65ft schooner on lake union, WA.

Bought our own boat in Dec of 2008 in Corpus Christi, TX. We quit our jobs in Jan 2009 and moved aboard it and spent 1 year full time working and living on it in a boatyard in TX.

Got it finished (finally) in Jan 2010 and have been cruising the Gulf Coast for a little over 5 months now.

Not sure I stuck with your format request, but there you go.

Started dreaming in 1975. Bought a boat in 2000. Worked to pay off and get kids out of school (University). Had first of three heart attacks in 02. Second in 04. Last one in 06. Now disabled (we tried to go but my heart is just too bad) and have sold the boat. DO NOT WAIT TOO LONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ken on Satori
