Seems you can do pretty much anything you want in Amsterdam except not pay your bills.

Original designer on the project was, pardon the pun, "stiffed" for more than half his bill.

If they sell the 27 macs on board, that should cover some of it.

Looks like the Myan Calandar was looking at the end of days for the Jobs boat, and not the rest of the world.

I switched to Androids so we won't be helping to bail the boat out of hock.

Re: Steve Jobs Has Boat Impounded For Unpaid Bills

Dealing with the finances of a deceased family member would not be fun at all. And with the magnitude of Steve Jobs's accounts, I don't even want to think about how complicated it would be.

Only too true, this is my favorite:

Too true… reading between the lines… if a key design company doesn’t even have the office business communication skills to manage contractual payment conditions for that size project, you have to wonder if they performed as requested on design work?.

Regarding the title- I don't think Steve really cares.

Re: Steve Jobs Has Boat Impounded For Unpaid Bills

The designer already got 6 million euro of his 9 million bill. That is over 10% of the total cost of the finished boat. This is not a normal bill from a designer in this size range at all. Maybe Jobs agreed to it, maybe not. Maybe the designer is just trying to get a share of the wealth, Stark is well known as an unpleasant person to deal with.

In most EU countries, it's possible to get a lien against someone's property based on the thinnest of evidence. Getting a judgement will be a lot more difficult. It doesn't look like Stark has much of a case.

Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...

No, you'll be helping Bill Gates finance his next yacht in stead :-)

If the boat is as reliable as my Apple Shuffle or girlfriends IPOD they'll have to buy a new boat in a year or two anyway.

I would not pay. The boat is very ugly, the designer does not deserve the money.

Not sure why the shot at macs. I have used an old MacBook on the boat in the Cairibean for 4 years straight. Never been turned off, runs the Nav suit, scabs wifi, sends blogs, and picks up wifi for Skype in the middle of Simpson Lagoon. All I hear is how PC's have failed, need another program to run another driver or interface with some app. Yes, there are other computers, and some outsell Apples. But for reliability, you can't beat the product. I'm sure though the shot was tongue in cheek.

Re: Steve Jobs Has Boat Impounded For Unpaid Bills

I reckon we should change the rules for designers, and pay them a percentage of the resale price of the boat, not the build cost.

Nothing like a smple feedback loop ....

Re: Steve Jobs Has Boat Impounded For Unpaid Bills

You mean that boat was actually designed

Just an aside, the daughter of a good friend of mine, was one of the English design students who appeared on a TV series with Starck. She was not particularly taken with the guy, and left the program.

Android is bigger threat to Microsoft than to Apple. The Apple/Google rivalry is just more public than the Microsoft/Google rivalry because Steve Jobs was so flamboyant about his desire to kill Google.
