Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

My answer? I am just so tired of being alone. Nobody to joke with. Nobody interested in sailing or anything sailing related around me, or they are already attached. I am in the sailing place, and there do not seem to be any sailors around. I need to move up to a two person boat I guess. And move to a more active marina.

Boat size is irrelevant.. the fantasy there's tons of women looking for guys with a boat is just that.. a fantasy.
If your coming across right a woman will be happy on a 22ftr.. till winter anyway..
If they want you for the boat.. thumbs down..
If they want the boat for you.. thumbs up..

Well, women with their own boats are having just as tough a time finding a man. Sigh.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

I think the condition I call "Big Boatitis" is pretty common. I've lived on everything from a 24' to a 65 and the extra room on the 65 was tremendous, but the extra expense goes up by the cube on the boats length. My 45 is pretty good for 2-3 people, 4 if they were all very friendly. I would not want to push more than that on her. A 22 is....well....small. Things were pretty tight on my 24 I would not want to do that again, but if it's a choice between going cruising on the 22 and putting it off to buy a bigger boat, I'd stay with the 22.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

aint size of banana as much as how it is used in the recipe...lol..
big boatitis...40 ft was my first choice, and i had to work to regain that after problems with .... tmi...rodlmao....old bagage now behindame....and whatsa behindame is nota important....(gumball rally)

but i am finding a 40 is perfect to cruise...for me.

Re: SSSSM - Part Deux

That's certainly true Z, not all cooks are created equal and some just haven't figured out the proper use of the banana. Like anything else though, practice makes perfect!

I don't think it's wise to get hung up on size though. The better measure of a boats size has always been the LWL not the LOA. Beam plays into this equation also. The old Westsail 32's had a lot of room down below, but their LOA and LWL was nearly the same too (excluding the bowsprit if present). I had a 43' LOA back in the 80's but her LWL was only 32, still a pretty roomy boat down below because she had some beam and was a double ender.

Long skinny boats are fast boats, but speed is a relative term. They are frequently uncomfortable in a seaway. For me I go with comfort every time. I'd rather arrive in port an hour later but rested and happy than having been beat to death as some of these very light go fast machines leave a lot to be desired in the comfort department....and to me the safety department as well. I like have some extra strength in the hull even if she's slower.... but then I'm a steel boat guy so what do you expect!
