Having accurate, complete knowledge about what is happening in the market is due diligence, not cheating.

Witholding that information to try and pump up the price is cheating!

Not that a broker would ever dream of doing that...

Re: South Carolina Abandoned Boats

Go to any boat yard and look at the registration stickers on the bow. If they are more that 4 years old it is a good chance it is available or might be if you contact the owneres through the marina or in our case the Dep. of Natural Resourses. I have seen boats go for the storage fees. Talk to the marina. They know who is behind or perhaps a part of an estate. Like overpriced homes... the game has changed.

The guy I got my boat from is 86 years old, he was done sailing, wife passed, ready to go into assisted care... He literally turned down several buyers (according to him) because they didn't fit the bill. I got lucky, or call it faith, or whatever... It was just right
Our boat also came from craigs list at a stupid low price from an older couple. The Marina Harbour Master, my surveyor and numerous other said we "stole" the boat
We love and thank the previous owners for taking care of her

Salvage title. If someone leaves a vehicle or boat on your property then you can claim it as yours. Different states have different rules so check it out.

Re: South Carolina Abandoned Boats

Not sure if this works for boats but in real estate there's somehing calld "quiet title. " You have to advertise that you are claiming title, allow any other claimants to step forward, then you wait for several months (I think), and at some point you are given title.

Obviously I don't know much about this - - just had a brush with it once. . . .

Good luck!

Re: South Carolina Abandoned Boats

In my state you send notice to the persons address on the title that you are claiming it. If no one responds after a set time period then it's yours. If the old girlfriend wants it back then you have the right to claim storage costs. Tow companies do this all the time because some people don't pick up their impounded cars. You might also claim a mechanics lien for storage of the boat on your property. That'd piss the ex off.
