Some Logic in the New Year

I just came across this in the Wall Street Journal and it gave me hope for some logic in the new year...

Global warming has become a religeon, those who have doubts are heretics. There's no reason to expect logic.

There is no more Co2 now than there was 10,000 years ago.

This thread will go forever.

Re: Some Logic in the New Year

I've been away from the hustle and bustle of crazy society for awhile and returned to find the same damn argument brewing. But worse here in Australia...they gave themselves a Carbon Tax!

At that point I pretty much gave up believing that there was logic in the world and resigned myself to being a closet heretic.

Michael Cricton's State of Fear is one novelist's take on the politics of "global warming."

A truly logical approach would threaten many rice bowls with breaking, and frankly I don't think the politicians care about much other than growing their bureaucracies and getting re-elected.

Seems that Humans are hardwired to need an EOTW scenario, especially as groups.

All religions have one - and in a secular age makes sense(?!) that an EOTW scenario evolves around stuff that people will now accept.

For me the Groupthink "burn the heretic" angle of Global Warming / Climate Change simply screams that a lot of folks have vested interests in the story, different ones for different folks - from control, to making money, to taxes, to hugging trees, to filling a void left by god(s) going bye bye.....

.....and BTW I am not saying that no good will come of it!, might be a driver to make some changes in the world for the better of all of us from more efficient use of resources - but am not holding my breath .

If the threat was so real we would be rapidly depopulating the earth - by fair means and foul.........

rather like right wing and left wing politics etc

Its worth noting that that article in WSJ, is signed by many leading skeptics, ie people well known over the years as disputing aanthropogenic global warming theory. Its hardly new news
