Re: So, you catch a mouse on a sticky tray - then what ?

My wife was a Wildlife Rehabilitator for a dozen years. She determined the fate of literally thousands of critters as to whether they would be treated further...or humanely dispatched.

It's safe to say she likes animals slightly better than people.

But I suspect that she would be astounded to find this thread on mouse eradication closing in on one hundred posts.

We are at the top of the food chain. Deal with it.

Especially good for the mice nesting in the bilge. If you miss, they drown anyway!

Several years ago I had a boss, who used his rifle at a small Greenland shark, he had cached.
Took some time before he did tell.

Re: So, you catch a mouse on a sticky tray - then what ?

I can't believe this is a cruisers forum and not one mention of the "Rat Zapper"????? Google "Rat Zapper". Buy three. One for near the dock step, one on deck, and one below decks. Bait with that cat food called "Meow Mix". (rodents can't resist it, and it's dry...no peanut butter mess) It's the only bait to use---end of problem. The rats/mice are zapped with 30,000 volts (stun gun technology) and die so instantaneously their eyes are still wide open...no pain, no noise, and since there is NO noise their buddies don't get "trap shy" . Then you just dump them into a baggie (without touching them), re-bait, and the next one comes in to feed. No kidding. I reset a Rat Zapper one night and I got seven rats in about three hours. I KNOW their buddies were watching me reset this thing but they didn't care. Since there was silence they didn't become afraid of the trap and the next one got in line for his last meal. This is the best device ever invented for dockside and on board rodent problems. Sorry to hijack the comedy this thread devolved into, but I had to offer this up as fact. No blood, no guts, no mess, no cute mice looking at you from a sticky glue trap....just a clean humane kill. Then you dump them and reset. CAUTION!! If you have any small pets aboard, (like the size of a small kitten), BEWARE! ...anything that can fit inside the opening of the Rat Zapper can be, and WILL BE.....killed.

Hope this helps anyone with a serious rat/mouse problem on board.

Martin
PS - NO... I don't work for, or have, ANY affiliation with the manufacturer of the Rat Zapper.

Re: So, you catch a mouse on a sticky tray - then what ?

Although my method is not the most humane...I certainly think it is the least expensive...

...I use a sticky trap and upon discovering the offender, I sing "Yesterday" by the Beatles. He usually goes into convulsions and spasms and is dead in a few seconds...
