Is a 'strait razor' what we call a "cut throat" or is it something else?

Non cut throats here are called " safety razors", what do you lot call them?

I switched back to a double blade safety razor a few years ago. I'm wearing a respirator often, or I'd keep a beard.

Saves a lot of money on razors refills. Wilkinson sword blades are about the best I've found. Surprisingly Amazon.com has good deals on bulk packages of blades.

Barbasol works well with them, which is nice as the 5 blade gillettes I used to use, needed a gel type shaving cream.

Since I retired from the Army 13 yrs ago, I've worn a beard. Wife doesn't like it, but I hated shaving, but being in the Army I had no choice, now I do.
I've been considering going back to shaving to make her happy, but it's a chore that I dislike immensely. For one thing it gives me ingrown hairs.

A couple of years ago, I started buying straight razors on a whim (Damn you Ebay!). I ended up with a half a dozen +100 year old straight razors and a brand new strop, however have not contemplated actually using one for shaving.

I have a beard but have used a straight razor for many years to trim around it. I can't even remember the last time I knicked myself. The parts of my face that I shave get an incredibly smooth shave.

I have to shave because of the military. I can't stand it but take a break on the weekends and holiday's. Wife doesn't like when I leave it go.

I had a Gillette razor set that only required needing to change the blade part but they've since stopped doing that. Now you have to get packs of the whole razor w/handle.

If I was going on a passage, I'd stop shaving and keep things simple. It really does take up quite a bit of time and I'm tired of all the razor burn and bumps that go with it. It's also a waste of hard-earned money. The prices for razors keep going up too.

Can anybody recommend an electric razor that will hold up around salt water? Skin issues are not letting me use a razor blade and I find it way to hot for a beard.

I use a Phillips type shaver, but normally a cheap knock-off. They work fine for 3 or 4 years so its a good investment.

A straight razor and boat that could be rocking, sometimes violently. Hmmm, what could possibly go wrong. If only there were a safer razor... we could call it, erm, a safety razor! That's a good name. I'll get working on that right away.

I am now shaving again due to the wife's insistence and have found a very good quality old fashioned single blade razor to be much kinder and a better shave.
One I have is pure Stainless steel, both it and the blades, they are both Japanese Feather brand.
It's a Feather AS-D2, not cheap but the blades are compared to regular razors, so you pay a lot up front then even excellent quality blades are cheap.

I got out of the disposable game years ago & picked up grandads old Gillette Super Speed DE. Blades are cheap, I buy a sample pack off Amazon once every year or two for $10. Shaving oil instead of foam/soap makes the blades last forever.
