Patient,

Thanks for the post and the link - I've never heard of Jesse before and, at least to my ears, is excellent.

Now somebody has to get him out of that kitchen in his videos and get him singing on an old wooden schooner instead.

Thanks again!

Mark,

Good call on the Lighthouse's Tale - one of my favorite Nickle Creek songs.

Can't get to grips with all the clips because of international blocking of coyright by Vevo, but thanks for great tracks. In the meantime add

anything by Eileen Quinn - especially the Anchoring Dance, and

I have to point out that Barrett's Privateers is NOT Irish. Written by Stan Rogers (RIP), a great Canadian songwriter. But it's a great seafarin' tune.

The Flowers of Bermuda(about a shipwreck off the coast of ... well... Bermuda) Make and BreakHarbour (about the decline of the fisheries)
And let me add another candidate, written by Otto Kelland: Let me Fish Off Cape St. Mary's

Phyllis Morrissey, Let Me Fish Off Cape St Mary's

I saw this guy for the first time last weekend in Smithfield, VA. He's a one man band and totally blew us away. We bought all three of his cd's and have been listening to them obsessively all week. He's got quite a few nautical themed songs.

Phillip Roebuck - The Mermaid Song
Here's another one I posted in another thread called "Monkey Fist" that gives you an idea of energy he puts out live...

Connemara,

You're right, Stan was the master, for sure. Jesse kinda reminds me of him.

Mark, awesome thread and CSN - Southern Cross is probably my favorite sailing song ever.

Slowshoes, I've never heard Kate Rusby before, but I think I could fall in love with her too! You also posted my favorite Lyle Lovett song, and he's got many great songs. Sailing to Philadelphia is a fantastic album. Hopefully you've got Ragpicker's Daydream and Get Lucky, they are both excellent as well.

NotQuiteLost - That Gaelic Storm tune makes me want to raise a pint, and as a not quite reformed metal head and ex-submariner I can appreciate that Demons and Wizards song as well.

It's crazy how much great music is out there that you never hear on the radio. Keep posting everybody, I'm loving this.

Alright, after just bemoaning the state of commercial radio, I'm going to post a song that I'm sure you have heard on the radio. However, this one has special meaning for me. I was listening to this album a lot at the time my grandfather was going through a terrible battle with throat cancer, which he ultimately lost. I can't listen to it without getting choked up. He was a remarkable man, and song pretty much sums up my feelings for him. Also, it has a sailing theme.

One more, not really a sailing song, but I can't sail past the Cape Henry lighthouses (old and new) without thinking about this one.
