I've been thinking of renaming my recently purchased sailboat but I'm, being a bit superstitious, worried about bad luck if I do

So far nearly everything on the boat has worked properly and I'd hate to have some bad mojo ruin that so I'm wondering if it's a bad idea to rename it.

I was feeling the same worried superstitious feelings but couldnt live with the old name so had a bit of a gathering and a few toasts and asked king Neptune to strike of the old name from his books. A few more toasts and drinks given to King Neptune. Then unvailed the new name king Neptune was very happy with our offerings the seas calmed and you wouldnt beleive it the tide came in, many drinks by all and a few for king Neptune and all is great our yacht "Live Louder" is still afloat yeehaa and happy boating

option 1: live with a crappy name you don't like or want.

option 2: go through the "ceremony", get your boat named something you want and like, and drink lots of alcohol in celebration.....hmmmmm this is a hard decision

Do you people really believe in this stuff?
Do most of you that go through with the ceremony also have a list of superstitious things you do or don't do? Like not walking under ladders in the boatyard?
I find it interestnig what makes people tick, why they key on one superstition and not others, I mean if one is valid aren't they all?
And sailing has a long list of superstitions!

I used the ceremony as a way to celebrate the relaunching of my sailboat. Refitted, renamed, drank Champagne, had a great time. Superstition or tradition? That's up to you to decide.

Most superstitions come from some real danger. A paint bucket dropped by someone up a ladder might make walking under said ladder bad luck. Three on a match; snipers. Black cats (full sized ones) will sneak up behind you, etc. Renaming a boat ceremony is just another reason to get friends together for a drink..... in the name of safety of course.

Yeah, you got to say some words and such ..... but it's all in good fun really.

We did a formal renaming ceremony at our club at the start of the season for our boat. I'm not superstitious at all, but it was definitely a great way to meet lots of members (we were new to the club) and a lot of fun.
