Rant!

Ok, here is my pet peeve: it makes me crazy when someone posts a very simple, concise question on a forum or listserve, and folks reply with
"well, I don't know anything about that, but..."

Here is a perfect example:

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ifi-35868.html

... ok, I'm over it...

that's the second time in 24 hrs that you have completely missed the point of one of my posts. I said I was peeved, not angry. Its like the difference between small craft advisories and a full gale.

Are you stalking me?

The main problem with this forum is also one of its main attractions.

It provides a vehicle for free expression. The members of this forum are from all over the world and come from all walks of life, all levels of education, and from the haves, and the havenots to the never wills. Opinions reflect this diversity.

Kinda like the people you meet cruising. I sure miss it!

If/when you offend someone, apoligize. If someone offends you, walk away. It takes to much engery to be pissed off.
Remember, you can always take up your anchor and move on.

No, I just happened by and saw the door open.

Seriously though, I DO see the point you make. I have been to Eleuthrea and the Exumas and hunted WiFi where ever I could find it. I did not comment since the info I have is not necessarily current..... others will post to that thread (to your point) with NO idea what they are talking about, having never been to any of these places.

Your comment in the thread about what you 'heard' about Georgetown could be said to cause you to be doing what you have said you do not appreciate... but it was at least second or third hand knowledge... which is better then what so many repeat as fact having read on the internet.

I hear what you're saying, but truth be told, my pet peeve is when people quote the post before them in their response. It makes the thread twice as long as it needs to be!

Faith, it's one thing to spread misinformation, rumor, lies, innuendo and such about the original topic. And you're correct to point out how that all gets passed on because "I saw it on the internet..." But at least a visitor to that thread will be entertained, misinformed or lied to about the topic at hand.

OTOH, it's quite another thing to post the very first answer to a question about ice skates with: "I have never owned ice skates, but let me tell you about the time I caught a cold changing my tires in the snow..."

I know, it's called highjack, and it happens all the time. I guess I have a more tolerant view to a thread that gets highjacked after 10 replies or so - in some cases the highjack is a logical progression of the conversation. But, a guy asks about WiFi, and the very first reply is about holding ground? Yikes.

If I didn't quote it, you wouldn't know my response was addressed to you

I have to admit that I do it sometimes…Ok a lot...and this is why.

Many first time posters start with a question (I did)...since its there first post I like to respond with a welcome even if I can’t help with the question.

Also for me this forum is not just about passing information around...it’s a social outlet.
I honestly consider many of you friends and just because I cant help with your specific question, doesn’t mean I can’t chine in with an "adda-boy", or "good luck with it"...or "sorry man...that really sucks"

I like the latitude we have with the threads and hope it doesn’t get to focused...Thanks Moderators!

Like any conversation anywhere. There will be drift, and many times in drift there is good information, or at least that's what I have read.........i2f
