We do not regret it actually, as we learnt a lot, got to see a lot of marinas and meet some very interesting people

The more vessels you look at you start to get a better feel for what you want, you become more critical and the intuition develops. We started very raw and there were several vessels we nearly bought, in hindsight most we were glad we pased up, one or two might have been less work than the Adams, but all of them in the end were old vessels with lots of character !

In regard to the comment of "too many pictures" - I both agree and disagree!

Always a challenge when presenting information between providing everything and not swamping the reader / viewer and therefore losing the message. The answer is often to present info in a "pyramid" - where viewer starts at the top and moves deeper if interested (and moves on if not).....in the case of boat listing photos I would say divide the photos into 3:-

1) Start off with one photo! (next to a description of the basics) so that someone can quickly see (as well as read) that it is a 32 foot ketch family cruiser rather than the 35 foot go fast sloop they are after (even when they don't know what an XYZ 32 and / or an ABC 35 actually is) and can then quickly move on....but if still interested they will want more photos........

2) Then onto around 10 photos - of the the usual things folks want to see (Cockpit, Saloon, Galley etc) to get some context of what the boat is about........and if still interested.........

3) and finally the collection of everything that a serious (and fussy? / sensible?!) buyer would possibly want to see before viewing the boat, especially before travelling great distance......and that includes the photos of dull stuff!

My feeling is that if anyone is really interested they would make the effort (lol!) to go to step 3 - but step 2 is the stuff of which daydreams are made of (even for those who have viewed the complete collection)....so no point in drowning those in close up pics of deck or mast fittings for when a buyer is busy selling the boat to themselves!

Damned strangest looking coffeemaker I've ever seen. On the plus side though, it looks like it brews a gallon of the stuff.

Looked at a steel 38' yacht once that had several weeping units like that shoved through the hull in various places. As the rust ate away around the plug, they just hammered it in more

The plastic 90 deg coming off seacocks are actually 1 1/2 inch plastic 90 deg inlets for holding tanks. I think. I only know of Marelon that is below waterline approved( usually black or grey). One good kick could break both fittings making a 3inch hole.
The boat this picture is from is a really good quality, beautiful yacht. Had to be after market.

I was looking at the smaller timber plug to the left, the one where you can not see where the tip resides ?

Here is another few images from past inspections or for sale contributions. Most were around 2004 to 2007.

The first two are from a Mottle 34 made of 6mm plate intended for Antarctica, note the plethera of ribs inside, very strong, probably would sail like a slub, but very strong. Note the air cooled motor, keeps the cabin warm in the Antarctic seas.

The second was a storm damaged TopHat that we went to look at.

Does not look like too bad a boat from the outside. I like the bulb keel.

May there always be water under you boat, but not inside !

If you can keep the water out of the boat the insides are so much more plesant to deal with. Most people upon entering a boat that is mouldy, damp, musty, dank or what every superlatives you care to use, will be turned off then and there. A dry boat sells so much better.

Seahag I'm with you. We had been looking for some time now, but recently finally found the right Cat.
However in the quest we came across many boats for sale with a dismal lot of photos. Either there were 20 exterior photos snapped at 6 degrees further than the previous, from a dinghy circling the boat and none of the inside at all, or internal photos of all the clutter which really puts people off- some even had stuff in the galley sink from a meal!!

Many had 3 or 4 photos max. But the most frustrating one was a photo of a Catamaran, under a tarp or full on boom tent. Try as I might to get some 'uncovered' ones from the broker/ owner (in another town) was like pulling teeth.

Would a guy fall for a gal who only ever wore a hood? Or buy a car covered by a car cover? The other annoying thing for me is the date display on any and every photo. Cheech
