In St. Martin, during
hurricane Earls peak, between 1130 am and 1230 pm a gang of three
lagoon catamarans allegedly severely beat and robbed a
Fountaine Pajot in Porto Royal by the Capitanierre. The native French
boat claims that she simply mentioned to another small
steel French
sloop, in French how cheaply built Lagoons have become and that she would be surprised if any of the several Lagoons close by would survive the
hurricane. Apparently at this point one of the three Lagoons involved in the alleged incident snuck up behind the FP and sucker punched her. Police are looking for other boats that may have witnessed the attack, however they believe that this may be a gang related incident and for this reason they are having difficulty finding witnesses willing to testify.
We managed to get a statement from one
boat provided we kept her name private. She said with a strong French accent " The lagoons just came at her out of no where.... they hit her once from behind, then it turned into a real cat fight! They were not going to stop until she was down and even then they didn't stop.... it was terrible. I hope this isn't the start of some kind of who's the cheapest"
catamaran war....."
The French police have launched an investigation and are looking for eye witnesses, of which they claim there were several dozen. However at this point there have been no testimonies as to exactly what happened. If you witnessed or have any information please contact local authorities.
We managed to obtain these photographs after the incident.
