Perspective

Amazing how big and scarey the denisons of the deep can be, even when they're just plankton eaters. I'd rather be in a cruiser than on a surfboard when one of these is around...

The whales come to the South African coast in February/March, autumn there, every year.
One day late in April we were sailing from Simon's Town to Cape Town, about 40M, requiring a rounding of Cape of Good Hope. Halfway to Cape Town, on the Cape Peninsular's west coast, we came across two big whales swimming slowly in company with a baby whale. We hadn't noticed them, they are difficult to spot if they do not blow air and water, and passed about 30m away from one of them. Peaceful but it still made us thinking ...

we saw many humpback whales broaching and blowing on our way to la cruz huanacaxtle. impressive and awesome.
