Love songs

Ok, Daughter is getting married and as part of the invitation , she has asked for everyone to choose a song they like.
I'm more than likely expected to come up with some sort of nautical, sailing , cruising , love type song .
Heeeeeeeelp.
Darren.

Re: Love songs

Nautical and romantic. There's so many.

First one that comes to mind, Sailing by Christopher Cross

Well, it's not far down to paradise, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

It's not far to never-never land, no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie, every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Well it's not far back to sanity, at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see
Believe me

Sailing takes me away to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Re: Love songs

by the way, try the CF search function and you will turn up a couple of very long threads on sailing music.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: Love songs

I think everyone will look at a salty father of the bride very strangely if he came up with his favourite song being a soppy love song, nautical or not .

Jimmy Buffett's "Son Of A Son Of A Sailor" may be better received :

As the son of a son of a sailor,
I went out on the sea for adventure,
Expanding their view of the captain and crew
Like a man just released from indenture.

As a dreamer of dreams and a travelin' man,
I have chalked up many a mile.
Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks,
And I've learned much from both of their styles.

Son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor.
Son of a gun; load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer.

Now away in the near future, southeast of disorder,
You can shake the hand of the mango man
As he greets you at the border.

And the lady she hails from Trinidad,
Island of the spices.
Salt for your meat and cinnamon sweet,
And the rum is for all your good vices.

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind that our
Forefathers harnessed before us.
Hear the bells ring as the tide rigging sings.
It's a son of a gun of a chorus.

Where it all ends I can't fathom, my friends.
If I knew, I might toss out my anchor.
So I'll cruise along always searchin' for songs,
Not a lawyer, a thief or a banker.

But a son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor.
Son of a gun, load the last ton
One step ahead of the jailer
I'm just a son of a son, son of a son, son of a son of a sailor
The sea's in my veins, my tradition remains.
I'm just glad I don't live in a trailer.

Re: Love songs

Sailors are known to be a crusty lot.... Given to deep introspection about Love-Hate and the physical release of wanting something so much that it hurts!

Harry Nilsson sums it up perfectly in this song.

Maybe not right for the wedding, but something I often hum when attending one..

Re: Love songs

"boats to build" by jimmy buffett and alan jackson.

It's time for a change
I'm tired of that same old same
The same old words the same old lines
The same old tricks and the same old rhymes

Days precious days
Roll in and out like waves
I got boards to bend I got planks to nail
I got charts to make I got seas to sail

I'm gonna build me a boat
With these two hands
She'll be a fair curve
From a noble plan
Let the chips fall where they will
Cause I've got boats to build

"the rhythm of my heart" by rod stewart

the rhythm of my heart
Is beating like a drum
With the words I love you
Rolling off my tongue
No never will I roam
For I know my place is home
Where the ocean meets the sky
I'll be sailing

Re: Love songs

Not nautical related but I got married a week or two ago and my bride walked down the aisle to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica. The guests loved it and couldn't believe it was Metallica playing it.

Congratulations NoTies.... What a great choice and wedding story!
Does this mean you will now have to change your CF name?
