What are the costs and limitations of internet access around the world, other than out of range of shore wi-fi?

I have been using the internet for a very long time, all of the time enjoying the company of friends around the world. Because of that I designed websites and e-mail attachments cognizant of the costs and speed limitations that other countries have. But, I have not kept up on whether there have been changes in the costs associated with internet communications.

I just read a post that reminded me that outside of the U.S. (and if the companies get their way with politicians soon to be here too) others pay a per bit price for their access. So I am curious how it is around the world.

South east Asia is pretty much the same all over. Either a prepaid sim card in a 3g phone or a little usb gadget in the laptop tends to be the way most people go.

Price varies country to country, but generally less than 10usd per week.

I'm currently in.the Philippines paying 6.83usd a week on a prepaid sim card in a smart phone. No limit on usage.
