Watching redford was like sticking
steel bolts through my skull. I saw nothing whitty in his character. Pulling out a
sextant? Really? What about that hand held
GPS backup you have? How about a handheld
radio? Who the hell goes to sea without a handheld
GPS and
radio? Let's not even start with his sailing ability.. how about keeping that
boat moving dummy?
IMO Captain Phillips was about dealing with a situation that was dealt to him. I mean, you are a
commercial captain... its not like you are given a crew of
SEALS to
work with.. they are loaders and bosons and whatnot. Merchant marine folk with a different set of skills. They were given a job to deliver goods from point a to point b and that is what they do.
I think it was also about pointing out the absurdity of the precautions that the
shipping companies use for anti-piracy. For example, pointing out how useless the pirate gates were (after I assume he received
training saying that they would work), or that there was no "safe room" for the crew, or that all they have against ak-47's is a bunch of hoses.
Maiden Trip was very very good.
