Re: Ice Age on the Way!

It was 87 degrees here today. I'm in favor of global warming as it will dip into the 60s/70s soon and that's too cold for us.

Re: Ice Age on the Way!

I think the only fair way is that we all should be able to vote on the weather. Clearly the cycle system we have now isn't working for everyone.

Re: Ice Age on the Way!

Few people seem to realize that when the Arctic vortex breaks down and sends cold air into the continental US, that's actually a warming event. Someone left the refrigerator door open. Your toes are gonna get cold for a while but the beer is gonna get warm.

On this we can agree, I've always been in favor of global warming. I'm just hoping that by reducing my environmental footprint to the point of now having a beneficial effect on the environment, that I didn't cause all this.

That must mean that the alarmist, apocalyptic predictions from MMGW doomsayers amounts to trolling too. Thanks DeepFrz, that's what I always thought!

Btw, you have a most appropriate handle for this thread.

The obvious fact is, the Arctic / Greenland sea ice and permafrost are melting, and at an accelerating rate.
Maybe not for long, according to NASA that is.

Speaking of, I don't know much about the publication cited, but the scientist who authored it has creds.

Re: Ice Age on the Way!

Yep, Ice Age in the northeastern US is beginning right now, to be followed in May by the ATM (Anthropocene Thermal Maximum).

Given Ken's recent foray into atmospheric composition, I think this comment from the linked-to blog is especially confirmatory...

"Bernie Stannus

it’s time to start building coal fired power stations. The California wild fires are drastically aided by too much Oxygen in the atmosphere. We need to start generating more CO2 to keep the conflagrations to a minimum"

though it may be the 'trolling antonym' of the Ken's post.

The point the NASA scientist that the 'coming-ice-age' loonies co-opted and tried to spin into 'proof' of their cockamamie postulation (or is it profiteering, plain and simple?) was making, is that the thermosphere, 70 miles above the surface, is cooling, due to decreased solar activity, a well known phenomena.

From the only somewhat reasonable 'reporting' of what was apparently some sort of interview.

https://spaceweatherarchive.com/2018...solar-minimum/

"When the thermosphere cools, it shrinks, literally decreasing the radius of Earth’s atmosphere. This shrinkage decreases aerodynamic drag on satellites in low-Earth orbit, extending their lifetimes. That’s the good news. The bad news is, it also delays the natural decay of space junk, resulting in a more cluttered environment around Earth."

Which may or may not be 'Martin Mlynczak of NASA’s' own words...

Note the correlation between the hot and cold thermosphere and the actual global surface temperature, as shown in my homemade graph (from the numbers given here https://www.currentresults.com/Envir...emperature.php ) for the same period.

I couldn't see it either...

And the first declination to address any of the points made in the post,

How unsurprising.

You mean you were discussing astronomy in that last post? How many others? No wonder they're often lengthy and indecipherable. Or did you mean the 5th alternative definition in Merriam-Webtser's, namely a "formal refusal?" Hmmm . . . doesn't seem to fit the rather loose protocols of a forum thread.
