I just cut 3 feet off my hair....

Yes, my hair was below my butt. Its now at my shoulders. I cut it with my Jims help.
Do you cut your own hair?

I did it for the bilges.

I use a trimmer with no guide, about once a month.

Re: I just cut 3 feet off my hair....

Flip it over your face (upside down) and cut across in as straight a line as you can. Don't look up or it'll be too long in back. Then flip back over and trim the sides and bangs. I've been doing this for years. Every so often I go to a shop to get a real cut. Sometimes they cut it OK. Usually, I go back and trim it how I like it....

Everyone I know criticizes me for cutting my own hair. 3/8 guide, for the last couple decades. Now I know it's just because I'm a sailor;-)

Hair cut. What's that? I did buy some new nifty clippers for my mustache and side burns, but afraid to turn my wife loose with them on my hair. Neither of us have cut our hair since we went cruising back in 2012. But, I'm thinking it is time.

How about some before and after pics?

Surely you have recent pics before Jim cut your hair?

For us guys, a hair cut sure makes a difference. I've been asked by a homeless dude if I was homeless too. That kind of threw me for a few moments, not sure how to answer since I no longer own a (land) home....but hey, the boat is home. I doubt he'd have asked me that if my hair was short, despite wearing shorts, T-shirt, and flip flops carrying a Marathon Cruisers Net bag over my shoulder.

Hey, Ralph, maybe you have just answered the question of how do you tell a REAL cruiser? The homeless criteria... I love it!!

Jim

PS This Jim has never had the nerve to cut Ann's hair, although she has asked at times. I've listened to her criticisms of professional cuts, and can't imagine what she would say (or do) after I really botched the job!

I've done some pretty courageous* things in my life, but that would be a step too far for me too.

No,my wife has been cutting mine for over twenty years. Before you ask, it is not a reciprocal arrangement as she does her own hair. I am just too cheap and don't like to waste my time waiting for a barber.

I cut Marcy's and she cuts mine. It's not rocket science. The difference between a good cut and a bad cut? About a week

Re: I just cut 3 feet off my hair....

Have been cutting my hair for decades but then I'm a guy and it's not that big a deal. Are my hair somewhat long when we were sailing but got tired of messing with it and went back to short hair before too lone. Long hair is a PITA. There's the old joke that a guy has pretty much a set hair style for life at age 25 while a women has a hair style for the month every month.

Used to cut hair with scissors but bought a battery hair clipper recently beard and tried it on what's lift of the hair on my head. It makes the job easier though not necessarily better. From what I saw in our recent sojourn in Italy, there are a lot of women using the clippers to. Seems a buzz cut is the new fashion trend for women there and not the one's of questionable sexual orientation.

I was a teenager in the sixties. Always wore my hair as long as my dad would allow. I just never got over hating haircuts. I always prefer long hair on women too....and my wife doesn't like hers short.

I still like metal and classic rock n roll, and hate those old rockers still trying to make it (now with short hair). You can't "rock on" with short hair.

We saw these guys in Stuart at one of their free concerts. Pretty good band out of Nashville -

I do agree long hair is more a PIA on a boat.
