I remember camping in Cornwall a long long time ago, and wondering why the place was so cheap. I found out a 06:00 the following morning, we were camping at the end of a RAF runway that flew anti submarine patrols with Nimrods and what was even noisier, Shackletons.

My mooring today is again at the end of a shared military runway, and the SAR SeaKings don't bother the gulls one iota.

I'm one of those people who likes watching high tech military aircraft and enjoys the sound of a military jet engine with no noise suppression engineering. I could enjoy something like that all day.

Only two things have ever impressed me about these noisy b;*'§%"d's, one was see a Sea Harrier flying backwards and bowing to the crowd, and the other was watching an English Electric Lightning taking off within 200yds and shooting vertically into the sky with full afterburners on.

After the disaster at Ramstein airbase, my opinion of flying displays changed forever.

Have you read the book "The wrong stuff", makes you glad military pilots don't fly commercial aircraft.

Ah, jet noise... the sound of freedom.

Actually, that's probably the quietest tactical aircraft around, so consider yourself lucky!

No airplane engine is as good-sounding as from a Merline engine, still commonly heard at Duxford, England with the overflights of a WWII-era Hurricane fighter.

IdoraKeeper, he say:
Those are an excellent anti bird device.. I want one...How much do spose they cost?
An A 10 Warthog is what, around $12 million USD?

The plastic owl can be found for much less.
