Getting back to Europe from Panama

Our Yorkshire tea bag stocks are becoming dangerously low, so we've decided its time for a trip back to Europe. That's not the only reason of course!

We are hauling the boat out here in Panama. I was hoping to get some tips from those Europeans who've done this before on what is the cheapest way to fly back.

Our initial destination will be Lisbon Portugal, but if we can get a good flight deal we could fly anywhere on mainland Europe and then make our way to Lisbon from there. We've been looking at Barcelona, Madrid and Amsterdam, but I wanted to put it out there in a case anyone knows of some secret route, perhaps via an obscure Transylvanian airport, to bring the costs down a bit. Everything we've found so far is around the thousand dollar mark.
Thanks!

Re: Getting back to Europe from Panama

Spirit Airlines flights from Panama City to I think Fort Lauderdale look to be the least expensive way to get out of Central America.

Re: Getting back to Europe from Panama

PTY - LIS - $1400 (TAP)
PTY - AMS - $1150 (DAL)
PTY - BCN - $1450 (TAP)
PTY - MAD - $1450 (Iberia)

I use Kayak.com for a first cut at fares. Then I check the airlines themselves - rarely/sometimes they will beat the fare.

US$1k - 1.5k seems pretty typical to get from anywhere north of Ecuador to Europe these days.

Re: Getting back to Europe from Panama

United has all the destinations above for around $1250 for September travel.

If there is a secret way to get to Europe, I don't know it. You may have to try the obscure airlines one at a time, but then their route structures may not have the reach you need.

Re: Getting back to Europe from Panama

Try skyscanner.

Then look up Panama to the US (a Spanish US location, say Florida, say Ft Laud).

Then look up US (Ft Laud) to Spain (Mad, e.g.).

Think where people might be flying and why Panama Florida Madrid is because they speak Spanish.

You may hit something in the EUR 500+ range if you prebook a month in advance or so.

Probably a lot cheaper to have the tea sent to Panama...
