Fuel tank servicing

I have just bought an old Jeep Cherokee. Yeah I hear you asking, what has this to do with boats. Well we get a very common question in the mechanical section asking about cleaning the boat fuel tank. So I thought you would all get a kick out of this. The Jeeps Haynes service manual say's,
Chapter 4 section 5. Fuel tank -removal and installation. "Note: the following procedure is much easier to perform if the fuel tank is empty. Run the engine till the tank is empty.
Even though I hope a 60lt vehicle tank isn't full when you ahve to service it, I think it is plain to see, the writers of that manual don't have to deal with the quantities of fuel we boaters do. Run engine till empty.....hmmmmm.........this could take awhile. Maybe that is why we sometimes get outragouse accounts from the mechanics.

It could be worse. The mechanic could charge you 100hrs waiting for the tank to empty.
Only the mechanics in your area though Darryl ;-) :-)
