Re: Flame thrower aboard??
Here is a vid of me playing with my multi color lasers showing how different color lasers react with different color balloons and other things.

Re: Flame thrower aboard??
How long would it take to make a pirate blind? I could see sporting a laser as a jerk deterrent. Long range, Accurate and legal. Technically non-lethal. Of course knowing myself the batteries would be dead.

Yep, and a skilled marksman can get three flare groups into a mere 150 meter pattern on a good day. Poor pirates...

Re: Flame thrower aboard??
If I were a pirate. Coming up to a boat, 30 feet away I'm suddenly doused in burning fuel, I'm going in the water as fast as I can, no thought of shooting anyone. My boats on fire, my mates are all in the water, my guns on the sea bed, the water around me is on fire, can't breathe. Not a lot I can do but sink. My pirate mother ship sees a ball of flame 3nm away and no sign of the pirates coming back with the girls and the booty, I'd think my mates must have been taken out by military or at least by some serious weapon. I'm not going there.
If I were the cruiser I wouldn't be anywhere near pirates. But if pirates aren't where they are supposed to be. They are not getting on my boat, I would rather die stopping them than live with the consequences of allowing them to take over my boat and the people I am responsible for.
An effective, non dripping on your boat, non illegal device for transferring fuel at a high rate could easily be made and kept ready should you need to offer some fuel to pirates from safe a distance.
I know its not fool proof but what is. There is no right and wrong answers here, you could let them on and they take some gear and leave everyone alone thank you for your time and apologise for the inconvenience or they could tie you up while they............ It's not a pretty thought. Statistically you may be better to let them on ? But not on my boat.

Re: Flame thrower aboard??
Haven’t bothered reading this whole thread - not my cup of tea really, but there is a US company manufacturing and selling a very compact napalm/flame throwing device. Not very expensive IIRC. Just not likely to pass thru HK customs or be easily carried as air cargo.[emoji38]

but
meanwhile the pirates read these thread to see what they should plan for and keep falling off their chairs laughing at people who think their flares are weapons

Re: Flame thrower aboard??
Yes, that was one i considered in one of more paranoid moments. Seemed practical enough but might ruin the sails[emoji23]
Decided the $$ was better needed elsewhere - maybe a trash pump for those occasional sinking episodes might be better value.

Depends on the wavelength and the power. There have been many accidents when going above a watt or two, where a tiny fraction of a second can blind, at least temporarily. Burning matches and balloons are far different from a retina.
I suppose some would say it’s inhumane to blind another human just for shooting at you, though. Gotta fight by the rules and all.
(note, if mounting a powerful laser to binoculars, don’t forget a filter of the proper wavelength. It would be bad to hit something shiny with such a rig. Not saying how I know that)
