Re: Exactly 100 times cheaper and easier

I have pondered this very subject while suffering on long flights. I figured that I would rather spend 5 weeks at sea than 5 hours on a commercial flight (Figure 5 hours plus taxis, security, waiting, lines, hassles).

Just completed a 30 day cruise from Palau to Puerto Galera, Philippines. Fantastic. About 1000 miles. Might have flown here for US$ 1000, several hours in a bus the a ferry ... about 24 hours of suffering.

Also, I think weeks to hours is a fair conversion of passage time between air travel and cruising.

I want to go mountain climbing in the Himalayas can you help me with the conversion??

Oops, guess this is one of those cases where you can get there from here. As I keep trying to point out ... everything ain't on the coast!

Re: Exactly 100 times cheaper and easier

I feel the main difference between flying and sailing my boat is that I do the travelling, as opposed to merely being transported, and the difference between hostels and staying on my floating camper is the fact that it's my home. Add to that the satisfaction of knowing that us sailors will be the last ones doing intercontinental travel in the post-oil waterworld

Re: Exactly 100 times cheaper and easier

I have a slow yacht, so I will be going from one place to the next, seeing all thats there where ever I park my Hotel on water,
Then I will up anchor and sail to the next one, park and do the sights,
Feeding your self is part of every day costs, whether your flying, sailing walking or riding a pushbike,

The only costs I will have is a bit of diesel for motoring into and out off difficult spots,

I own the boat and when it is back n the water, it should be right for a couple of years before I have to fix any thing or replace any thing,

Slow cruising doesnt break things,

What I dont see while I am cruising, I will see driving my RV which I will be doing when I finish my sailing trips,
Driving an RV is expensive compared to sailing, Huge diesel bills if I travel long distances, But I have that sorted as well, I have my car and bikes on a trailer on the back, so I park the RV and go sight seeing in the car or on the bikes, That way it works out a lot cheaper, But there is still a fuel bill for all 4 vehicles,
