Endurance found after 100+ years
I don't know about you folks, but seeing that ships' name across the stern is absolutely emotional for me. Wow.

Re: Endurance found after 100+ years
kinda makes you wonder how much time and money was spent on finding an old sunken boat. guess its it's hard times for some and for others life is sweet

I think the $10m or so the expedition cost (donated anonymously) is better spent than, say, on the monthly maintenance for Andrey Melnichenko's monstrous Sailing Yacht A.
I had the same reaction - very emotional to see the transom, and in almost perfect condition.

Wow, thanks for sharing. I so enjoyed the mini series, documentary and book about the expedition.

Re: Endurance found after 100+ years
It's a fantastic find, especially for those of us utterly enamored with the Shackleton story.

Re: Endurance found after 100+ years
How many times, 115 years or so ago, did a ship go down in calm sea conditions, in deep water, with the exact location documented? Not often, I'm sure. But we can all think of one....

Re: Endurance found after 100+ years
So amazing, and so fitting that the ship would survive like this too.

Re: Endurance found after 100+ years
There is damage to the ship but it looks like you can take the wheel and go sailing.
The condition of the ship is amazing. You can see the fasteners in the planks. Just astounding.
Later,
Dan

Re: Endurance found after 100+ years
It is great to see those photographs , the whole Shacklton story is an amazing one , to cross the southern ocean in an open boat was some feat , his navigator a new Zealander did not get the recognition that he deserved ,the real sad part of it all was that most of the men who survived the expedition died in the mud of WW1
