DO BIGGER ADDS= MORE CLICKS

I noticed that the advertising on Cruisers forum is getting bigger and more prevalent. I am a capitalist, so I hope that whover is running this site can also make money at it through add revenue. Although, I do wonder if the bigger and better designed adds actually get more clicks, or do they just take up more space?

Been my experience that they only take up a hell of a lot of bandwidth, and not so much for clicks.

That's just me and my own forums, web sites and stuff I've run over the past few years.

Personally, I hate ads (though I too, am a Capitalist and I don't mind people making money, the more they make, the more they spend, which makes more money and so on....) but... ads generally suck. lol

Yeah, I have a lot of band width and I have noticed that even with that the Cruisers Forum is much slower to load up lately with all the larger adds. On a slow connection or machine, like at some marina wifi, I would assume it could be an issue.

We recently upgraded the forum software and one ad was added to guest as well as the ad in the footer. I am working on a new design where the ads will be the same for guests and members and fit in better into the layout of the site. The currently layout is fixed width for an 800 pixel screen and has been in place since 2002 when the board started. The new skin will be "fluid" meaning it will expand to fit your screen to reduce the amount of vertical space needed to scroll through the posts.

I'm not going to complain about ads. Necessary evil.

But on my browser (Firefox 3.0.3) the menu drop downs disappear behind the ads so they can't be used. The menus can't be used, that is. The ads can be used just fine. I have to go back to the main page to use some of the options.

Edit: On a site like this where I want less ads, I spend some time clicking through on the existing ads to give them some traffic. I clicked through on the Sony ad and looked around a bit.
