deleted thread al gore

ok so now my thread on why the al gore thread should be discussed has been deleted, im slightly miffed not even a pm explaining that this forum is also the al gore fan club supporters base therefore anti al gore sentiment is not allowed. anyway i just wanted to add this

British judge says Al Gore's climate change film contains 9 scientific errors - International Herald Tribune british judge finds 9 scientific errors

Probably the worst thing you can do for the environment is to jet around for business or holidays (or green crusading). Air travel produces about as much carbon dioxide as each passenger driving their own vehicle the same distance. Though jet aircrafts emissions, released high in the atmosphere, have a greenhouse effect three times greater than road emissions

another reason to get out the sails and let the recycled co2 take you where you want to go

I'm in favor of global warming!
it's getting too cold here in New England to sail anymore.

Why do we even have an off topic forum if it will result in deleted topics that are off the sailing topic?

It has nothing to do with Anti anything. It is the fact that the past has proven that these topics cannot be discussed here without Political and Personal argument breaking out. Take the replies to Northencats post at the top as a prime example. In this instance, I would say Northerncats post is acceptable, although shaky, but the replies imediatley take it over the edge. If it wasn't those replies, it would soon be something else.

Politics is not what this site is about. Many members have voiced concern over these subjcts of late and we will endevour to uphold those concerns. This site is about boating and boating it shall remain.

In regards to "Off topic" please read the guidline. It say's that the Off Topic forum subjects are still to be loosly based around boating. This Off topic forum is for subjects that have no catergory elsewhere.

Yes, why should we be allowed to discuss climate change and the irregular weather patterns that may result from this change? Why would we want to discuss whether the hype is actually supported by science?

Really, what do climate and weather have to do with sailing anyway?

Rather,

What does Al Gore have to do with boating other than insisting that we're about to have more water front property.

If that was what gets discussed, it would still remain. The board welcomes those discussions. So far none of the posts removed discussed anything like that. They all got into Politcal rotten tomatoe throwing.
For instance.... Northerncat has made a comment supported by a link in regards to the Judge making the 9 statements on Al Gore's film. That is OK and couild end in good discussion and although maybe not totaly related to boating, would most likely be allowed to stay in the "off topic" forum. But then somebody replies with a "you're ugly and ya mother dresses ya funny" type statement and everybody draws their guns and we get a shoot out at the OK coral. It is not always the topic that is the issue. It is when the replies all go to custard. And depending on what the topic is, determins my judgment as to leaving the good posts or pulling the entire thread. If another Admin/mod person has intervened first, then I back there judgement.

Northerncat I do apologise for not PM'ing you. I didn't because I was not actually blaming you for the thread as such. I pulled it all because (in my judgment call) it had gone to custard earlier and was going to custard again. I did not pull it due to your chosen subject.

Global warming = yet another reason to have a movable, water based lifestyle.
