Re: Daylight Saving Time

They say that 40 is the new 30
and 50 is the new 40.

All I know is that 9 PM is definitely the new midnight.

What do you all intend to do with your extra hour? Please reply.

I'm thinking of listening to a few Nickelback albums, eh.

I’m in my off-season, house-sitting phase. I’m 1/2 way across the country right now. I’m heading east to west so already gaining time-zone ground as we move along. But the added hour is going to be well used to sleep in on Sunday.

Sure it does. We have one hour less of daylight to sail.

Are we not losing an hour?

So dark here with the rain ... makes me think we've already turned the clocks back. At least we're not shoveling or sweeping it

I'd probably be looking for an old Stones track ... Time is on My Side

Re: Daylight Saving Time

Five pages in and no one has mentioned that the whole thing is driven by our slavish connection to the clock?

When does school start? - One hour after sunrise.

When do you have to be at work? - One and one half hours after sunrise.

How long do you spend at those places? School 6.5 hours, work 8 hours. In the summer there is still light when you go home, in the winter not so much.

Different profession, then your times are different.

There, done. No DST, no silly shenanigans.

Personally, at sea I don't care what time it is (either time for me to be on watch or time to be sleeping) and in coastal sailing I care about when the ebb starts (or maybe the flood) and the last time I checked the tides had no respect for the clock.

Tide tables are time tables.

Depends on which time period one is perceiving.

Rolling back the clock is adding an hour to the day that started at midnight.

the ebb doesn't start at 8:00AM every morning, the flood doesn't start at 2:00PM every afternoon. Nor do they start at some defined increment before or after sunrise. Hence my "no respect for the clock" given that we all expect the bank to open at exactly 9AM because that is what the clock says, regardless of any non-artificial factors like sunrise. I simply don't understand why we don't have legislation to force the tides to conform to a uniform schedule.

Re: Daylight Saving Time

Instead of rolling back the clock at 2 AM couldn't we just roll it back at rush hour and delete the traffic?

Re: Daylight Saving Time

Q: What time is it when you read jokes about Daylight Saving Time?
A: Time to laugh!

Q: What is the best pet for daylight savings time?
A: A watch dog.

Q: Why did the man sit on his clock after setting it back for Daylight Saving Time?
A: He wanted to be on time.

Congress finally had a meeting about daylight savings… it was about time.

Maybe if daytime was more careful, it wouldn’t have to be saved all the time.

Q: Why did the clock think he had amnesia?
A: He lost an hour of time without realizing it…

Q: Why couldn’t the clock set itself back for DST?
A: It needed a hand.

Q: Who invented Daylight Saving Time?
A: A guy who was an hour late to work one day.

Q: When did the duck wake up the morning after clocks were turned back?
A: At the quack of dawn.

Q: Why did the clock at the all-you-can-eat buffet run slow?
A: It always went back four seconds.

Q: What did the clock say when I set it back an hour?
A: It’s about time.

If we ever run out of fun kids jokes… we’ve always got Daylight Saving Time puns to fall back on.

I’m proud to say, I haven’t owned a watch in nearly three decades. I don’t need to… my spouse has one

Happy people don't measure time.

At sea, we liked to keep noon close to noon.

I live on dog (Labrador) time; pee time, feed me, pick up ****, play time.

Re: Daylight Saving Time

Does this mean we should turn back the engine hours meter back an hour? Or just run the engine an hour less this Sunday?
