Comfortable Mens' Lined Shorts

Ok, I know I am going to regret this, but honestly I've run out of steam. While there will be plenty of chances for snarky remarks, and giggles from the back of the classroom, this is an honest question.
Living in the heat makes us all sweat. A lot. I've tried/bought ALL kinds and brands of swim trunks, bathing suits and the like. All of the ones that contain netting are eventually very uncomfortable. Large netting, small netting, name brand and Walmart, all of them hurt. I've even gone so far as to cut the netting out and just wearing the shorts with cotton underwear. Problem is I will go through 3-5 pairs a day like that with the heat & humidity. I've tried freestyling through life and that's even worse.

What I am looking for is some advise as to the brands (or better yet a link) to some trunks with the built-in netting that's soft and doesn't make me feel like I've had my face pressed against a screen door all afternoon.

Go ahead and laugh. Everyone in the mall does. No I'm not trolling nor being a smart ass. I'm sweaty and uncomfortable and sick of washing a mountain of drawers. So guys, whatyasay? Help a brother out.

Ok all silliness aside my husband LOVES these... have you tried LandsEnd?

Men's 10" Field Swim Shorts from Lands' End

The cut is longer and has pockets but dries fast and is airy inside.

If ya don't like em they take 'em back no questions asked!

Columbia.
Or, Nike running shorts.

That's pretty much all I wear. The other shorts I have, I just go commando with unless I'm going to work...then I wear underarmor type drawers.

Underarmor may be your answer too, not the knockoff junk... Underarmour heatgear boxor-briefs are by far the most comforable thing on the market. And I've tried it all... You can still swim in them (under your regular shorts, please) as well as wear with your normal casual clothes.
The generic stuff just makes you sweat more than normal, of course it 'wicks' it away, but what's the point... Only underarmour and some of the Nike ones actually keep you cool an comfy.

They're expensive obviously, but if you look for deals on eBay, and shop the sales at places like basspro, you can save a bunch. I have several pairs of underarmor that I've been wearing exclusively for over two years now, of extensive outdoor activity (work!). I had to hand sew up a seam in one of them, but other than they are all still just like new.

But yeah, columbia has the softest and bestest shorts on the market, including the netting. Nike running shorts are my second favorite (nylon fabric instead of netting) but they're a litte too short for wearing to the bar

Re: Comfortable mens' lined shorts

The question would be why your shorts are uncomfortable? Are you getting chafing at the inner thighs? I can tell you that as a runner this used to be a huge problem for me. I would come home from any run over 10 miles with everything bloody around the sensitive area. Very painful. Tried everything – cotton (the worst), silk, synthetics, underarmour… nothing worked, they all turned into sandpaper with the friction and sweat.

Then in desperation I finally had my Joe Namath moment – pantyhose. It worked! Very comfortable. No more chafing and bleeding! Just buy the biggest giant size you can find, cut them off at knees and wear under your shorts of choice.

Just don’t get into an accident

Cotton shorts...

Here in Oz most of the mens' shorts are cotton. They try and sneak in a bit of polyester but its not popular for the above reasons.

I'll probably get something like these when the summer stock comes in. Tres unfashionable...

Take a look at the bottom of this page.

It sounds like what your looking for.

I will see the owner of this company on Friday as we sit as we have a board meeting of a non-profit we both sit on. I can ask her more specifics if you want. Most of her clients buy to go to the Caribbean, even though her stores are here in Northern Alberta.

She is quite knowledgeable on these issues.

Glad to hear himself endorses these, since I ordered a couple of pairs two days ago.

If if makes your face hurt, you have to be doing it wrong.

Re: Comfortable mens' lined shorts

How about forgoing the shorts and wearing a sarong/pareu/lava lava? They're very popular in the pacific and asian tropical regions.

Re: Comfortable mens' lined shorts

Look for "river shorts" from REI, Patagonia, or other quality outlet. Most are lined with "mesh" which is usually not netting, but a thin polyester material. River shorts are also always some quick-dry material. I have lived for weeks in mine (go for a swim when they get dirty).

Painters pants are good, so are pajama bottoms, but the best is a sarong.

It's not a matter of chafing, its the fact I can't find lined trunks that don't cause discomfort after wearing a few hours. The feeling of lots of little squares digging into my skin. Powders don't help there.
Thank you for the excellent shopping ideas. Ill report back in a week.
