Whatever you do don't touch that car or anything of that owner's or his family. Get him to get a quote from a reputable repair person with an exact description of the area that is going to be repaired with photos and all and pay the body man, not the relative.

Yes, you are responsible but you don't have to be suckered into paying more than necessary.
