Don't rely on brokers and marina operators...

When I got my surveyor he was recommended by marinas operators and brokers.

You saw what I ended up with.

I'd check out any surveyor very carefully before engaging them.

Hi Boracay, your boat is still the most solid boat I've ever seen!! I think it's a great project. I hope that there are people here in the area that can give me their personal recommendations on a surveyor like some of the posts that have certain mechanics, handymen, etc.. that are high on their list.

How is your boat coming along??

Surveyor in Sydney

I was very wary about using a surveyor recommended by the broker for obvious reasons when buying my boat (ex Sydney) about 18 months ago.

I talked to a local surveyor I know reasonably well who used to work in Sydney to get his recommendation.

Ended up going with David Holmes - very happy with his report & confirmed a few things that I noticed when viewing the boat as well a lots of things I had not. Price was OK and service very professional.

I can PM you contact details if you want.

Solid boats...

My opinion is that all boats must be solid.

Monos need to have enough weight to keep the rigging and the ballast where they belong. Nothing should "move" unless it needs to.

Cat owners would have their definition of solid.

Boracay is slowly coming along. Come and have a look some time, maybe even help to put the sails up.

My opinion would depend upon your exact definition of “solid”.
I’ve never sailed a liquid, a gaseous, nor a soft boat; however, every boat I’ve ever sailed was hollow.
