Re: Boat Drinks: The Recipes
Glass any size preferably rocks glass, add 4-6 oz of dark 7-12 yo rum, if you have access to ice add as desired. If you’re feeling like scurvy is taking hold or it’s a special occasion add one wedge of lime.

Re: Boat Drinks: The Recipes
I know this post is half jest, but I would like to point out that for cruisers heading further than the Caribbean or the Med, Mio flavor enhancers and powdered drinks are an excellent option if you have a water maker on board. You can carry more with less weight since you add water as necessary.
I haven’t gone as far as Delos with an onboard still for making booze, but lemon/lime mio with house water, some tequila and a squeeze of fresh lime tastes damn close to a proper margarita. Mio tropical fruit with house water and rum almost tastes like a bespoke st Tomas sundowner.
Now, I still stock ginger beer, Red Bull, and club soda as the go-to sundowner mixers, but experiment with those Mios and see how well they fit the sailor lifestyle.

Re: Boat Drinks: The Recipes
Row-Home Margaritas
1.5 limes (the little Mexican ones not the huge ones sold up Norte)
1 shot tequila repasado
1 shot tequila blanco
1 shot Controy
1 splash Squirt
These margaritas are served rocas con sal - on the rocks with salt. Blending of margaritas is a criminal activity. Use two shots of repasado if you don't have blanco. If you have trouble finding Controy, you might try Cointreau or Gran Marnier with a splash of gasoline. Seven Up or Sprite can be used in place of Squirt. The Squirt tops up the glass and is a substitute for all the melt water you get in a blended margarita.
Yesterday, I made a rather shocking discovery. I had always believed that the tall skinny shot glass was one ounce. It turns out that it is actually two ounces. No wonder the ladies have been asking for a "light" margarita with half shots and more squirt for their second drinks.
Do not attempt to start the dingy outboard. Serve these only to friends who are rowing or walking home.

Re: Boat Drinks: The Recipes
After morning snorkeling in salty Croatian waters we needed something to get rid of the saltiness. Having the small cans of juice, we invented the "Croatian Sunrise", equal parts pineapple juice and vodka on the rocks. Smallish, refreshing, the breakfast of champions.

My recipe for a Margarita is pretty simple and I get rave reviews for it:
1 part fresh-squeezed lime juice
1 part Tequila
1 part Triple Sec/Controy/Grand Marnier/Cointreau - your choice
Serve over a glass filled with ice.
Fair winds and calm seas.

Re: Boat Drinks: The Recipes
This boat wears the Red Duster, so we drink mostly G&T's, made with 50 or 75ml of gin, and either home-made tonic (see http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1822433) or Fever Tree and a lime.
However, we have been known to break out the cocktail shaker from time to time, and make martinis (my father's only drink). That's 75ml of gin and a little dry vermouth (from a couple of drops to 10ml or so), shaken well and poured into a martini glass. I used to always garnish them with olives, but CarstenB of this parish turned me on to doing them with a twist of lemon rind, and I now like these better.
Another cocktail which was very popular one summer a few years ago is the Martinez, see here: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/...il-recipe.html
This is pretty scrumptious.
And altogether you can hardly go wrong playing around with gin, red vermouth, campari, aperol, in different combinations.

Heineken - the Budweiser of Europe
As an aside, do the words "green bottle" and "skunked" mean anything to you?

Re: Boat Drinks: The Recipes
My favorite one is "Dark & Stormy". Hereis a recipe, it's quite simple -you pick ice, about 100 ml of ginger beer, 50-60 ml of dark Rum, and a lime. You fill a tall glass with ice. Squeeze in lime to the ice and then add the ginger beer. Then top the ginger beer with rum, and decorate the glass with a slice of lime on the top.
