It certainly did see Major Oil Spills - Kirki
One of my mates was involved with the salvage.

For some background of the spoof of the incident see index.asphttp://www.japiblog.com/japiblog/2007/11/the-front-fell.html

This really sounds more like a comedy sketch than a real interview. Hilarious if it is real. But still work a chuckle if it's just a sketch.

EDIT: I should read better. It is a comedy sketch, still based on a real occurance.

The “Kirki” notwithstanding, I can assure you that, with proper inspections and maintenance, the 'front' (or pointy end) never falls off. Nor does the back (or not pointy end).
Proper priming, painting and sealing of any "cardboard, paper, string or celotape” structural members should adequately protect against the occasional (rogue) wave.
The rare occurrence of the front (pointy end) falling off is considered a “design flaw” and is not usually easily remedied by the crew, who learn to sail with it.
Crews don't like it.
Owner companies dislike having large pieces of ship falling off and going their own way. Particularly, the pointy end. This makes for very inefficient fairing below the waterline, resulting in higher operating costs, particularly fuel oil consumption; and we all know what that costs.
Insurance companies don't like it.
Safety underwriters don't like it.
Regulatory agencies don't like it.
National and local governments don't like it.
Barristers and lawyers generally do.
So do Australian comedians!

Just in case anyone actually thinks this is a real interview, it’s a hilarious satire performed by a brilliant Australian comic duo, Johnny Clarke and Bryan Dawe.

See more of them on the ABC website: The 7.30 Report - ABC
Or: MR JOHN CLARKE

Appartently the pointy ends actually do fall off occasionally! This report from Grand Rapids MI on a 65' CC that lost her bow (probably popped a plank) and sank.

Obviously, those owners didn’t properly prime, paint, & seal the various cardboard, paper, string or tape structures.

The two gentlemen doing the interview are a pair of clowns known as Clarke and Dawe. They have a spot on the ABC (The Australian Broadcasting Corporation) every Thursday night, where they usually take the mickey out of politicians, rogue entrepreneurs and anyone who takes their fancy...... If you check this site out The 7.30 Report - ABC there's a special there just for our US friends...apparently they're headed for the White House!!!

I always keep two lines on ours. If the pointy end falls off I sure don't want to lose it. Very expensive for the shipping alone.

If we were sleeping forward we could lose the fat end. Far worse of course. They don't like to talk about that even in this interview. I never store beer in the pointy end but come to think about I probably should throw a few in there just in case. Those float properly so you don't usually lose them. My wife does not drink beer. Just one of the many things I love about her.

There's a new episode every thursday nite in Oz, so if you're in the US, it'll be late on Wednesday night. Nothing is sacred to those two clowns....
