Any idea what this (formerly) floating object is?

This xxxx was found washed up on the beach in Northern California. It just arrived, so one has to assume it was floating around in the Pacific a few days ago. No one seems to have any idea what it is (besides pirate treasure)....

It looks to me a bit like a second world war Mulberry harbour section

Floating pontoon? Used in locks or in tidal waters. From Japan?

Whatever it is, if it's been floating long I wouldn't go near it. No marine growth at all?!

My thought as well.... not unlike large fenders they used to have between ships and wharves in Australia back in the dream time...

Looks like is says DODO Bob on the end. Which, surprisingly, yields millions of google hits. Including facebook users, maybe one of them has that pic in their profile.

Based on the size of the timbers, and the construction, it must have been built many years ago.

That large chain link on the bottom left suggests multiple like items chained together.

Are you kidding me??? This has been there for a few days and nobody has inspected it. I would have had this thing figured out after 15 minutes..... maybe not know what it is/was but certainly would have known if there was gold trinkets or the entire play boy magazine collection inside. Nothing else it looks like it would make a great coffee table. I’ll pay for shipping if you lead the ups guy to it!

This was all I could think of, too. It is cool looking. Where are all the kids these days? Someone needs to bring a few 12-year-olds down there and ask them what they think...in about an hour that thing will have been opened, upended, made into a fort, used as a floaty thing, tossed around, turned into something for sword fighting...and so on.

Re: Any idea what this (formerly) floating object is?

Y'all realize that thing looks to be around 4 ft by 6 ft by about 12 ft and solid wood, so it probably weights about 7-8 tons, right?
