Another Use for Plastic Bottles

People are building houses out of plastic bottles filled with sand: BBC News - Nigeria's plastic bottle house. It looks nice, costs less, is sturdy, cool, and is bullet proof. The nice thing is that they're building this project on a fairly large scale: 25 houses (with 2 rooms, kitchen, bathroom, toilet) and a school. They are sourcing empty water bottles from businesses and foreign embassies.

The article is about Nigeria, but mentions that it's already been done in India, Central and South America.

Relevance to CF? Another use for all those water bottles at sea and washed up on land.

The offshore oil industry should be a good source for plastic bottles, I'm guessing at hundreds of thousands of bottles of water are shipped to offshore rigs and used by the support vessels. If they are used for this purpose, would certainly cut down on river and sea pollution.
When I worked there, we used to segregate all the garbage, and it would have to be landed ashore to a "designated" garbage contractor. We had to pay for this service. The contractor would load all the garbage in his truck, drive down to the river, and dump the lot.
