1) SVD = $8,948 per upload = approx. $500K per year, not counting coffee cups, t-shirts, or "side business", if they have one.
2) SLV = $8,956 per upload = approx the same ($$$) per year.
How do you think these folks are shopping for new million-dollar yachts? It's pretty easy to figure out. Thank you patrons!
Again, I think it's a VERY cool home business model.
Cheers

More power to them [emoji106] . It just means they are providing value. It's a free market in the truest sense of the word.

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?
Oh and you may want to check the $/video on patreon. It's not quite as straight forward as that. Just ask if you need further advice

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?
I have watched most of them and have enjoyed all to varying degrees.
I understand the presence of the green eyed monster.. most of them have done good and managed to make a living doing things we'd love to be paid for. No point dwelling on it though.
My favourite now is the "sail life" channel on you tube. No bikinis, no fancy camerawork.. just a decent bloke living on his boat and doing (a great job of fixing it) up in the process. Genuinely interesting from a practical point of view.
Think the guy's called Mad or Mas or something

I believe that Nike learned to sail in Germany initially then Baltic and in the Med where her family would take holidays and charter boats. Karl was €5,000 and she seems pretty frugal when it comes working on the boat. Not seen any evidence that she lived in the US, practically every young German I've ever met speaks English as good as she does. No evidence that her parents have given her 'much' money either. German's aren't really like that.
Got admire her tenacity in cleaning up that shitter of a boat. I wouldn't do it.

She could very well have learned to sail in Germany. However, 5,000 Euros for Karl? Could be, but I doubt it. Maybe more like 500 Euros. That tub was a true 'piece of dung' waiting for the scrapyard when she found it. And let's not forget, she bought it in Central America (Panama?). Hence, just do the math with the local economies.
I'm a language specialist by trade. She might never have spent time in the US, but I can hear it. Just like Asians that have studied English in the US as opposed to in Asia, Britain, Australia, South Africa, etc. With a trained ear, you can hear it in 5 seconds. Two or three words is enough. Moreover, there are English terms that she uses that are specific to the US, nowhere else. She might have watched too many Hollywood movies, yet I suspect that she spent time in the states, maybe with a US boyfriend in the past. Something like that. She's got some age on her. Thus, she had the years to do that.
Daddy has money. Have you seen the building he owns where his pharmacy is? My father, now retired, was a pharmacist also, with his own 5-story building. I did the math. Unless she's been bouncing around the Caribbean for the past few years on her savings, daddy has been helping.

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?
Betting $10 that PortClyde's videos bomb. I'll skip my rational for now. Doesn't he need a boat first?
I think having a pretty nice boat helps with the fantasy. Aren't we all living vicariously when we watch professional sports? Or many other things? We rarely seek reality, we are often watching a fantasy world. Examples:
Gilligans Island
I Dream of Jeanie
The Andy Griffith Show
Star Trek
Friends
Seinfeld
Old shows? Yes....pretty well quit this type of show awhile ago. Too much fantasy perhaps. Or too many commercials I think.

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?
It's all explained in the series, there's no need to do any maths or guess work. No real need for to lie, especially as her patereon didn't start until a bit later Her experience (fairly well qualified), the boat, it being bought of a german couple who'd left it in Panama, savings, parent's money etc.. On the language front almost all Europeans are taught British english but end up with americanisms and a twang from TV shows and movies. I've experienced it in the past with foreign friends.
Anyway, not my style of show really. And I with you that I wouldn't pay to watch any of the shows La Vaga included, but if I met any of them I'd happily buy them a drink and have a chat. Same with the overland travel blogs I read or ride reports, or other websites I visit.

Hey!! That wasn't very nice! Please soften in down a little. (hahaha - just joking!)
By the way, thanks for originally posting this thread. To me, and maybe others, it's one of the most interesting topics on this forum. Well, this topic, and guns on boats. (hahaha)
As for Delos, Vaga, etc., I can sense a "spade is a spade", and from 1000 miles away. It's very easy to see. Oh, and would you like to be my first "patron"? (hahaha ... again, just joking)
Have a nice evening.

They don't "work", in the ordinary sense of the word, they have just chosen to ask others to pay for their retirement. I have watched them all, and I can easily calculate approximately home much time they have taken to "edit" their 15-minute home movie. The top sellers take around $9K of other peoples' money to shove out repeated 15-minute videos. Why people pay them, I HAVE NO IDEA! Maybe it's the whole "new age" of Internet psychology. It's the same as with "street urchin huskers", that wish to sit around strumming old guitars instead of doing a real job. I don't throw any of MY COINS into their guitar cases. It's a "little bit" removed from the "dude sitting in front of the convenience store" with a can begging for money, but not TOO FAR removed. In fact, it's even a bit more "sneaky"! These are people with $100K - $400K boats, now "million dollar boats", ASKING for YOUR MONEY, while at the same time probably running a "secret" side business (computer programmer, etc.). You wanna pay them? Please go ahead. They are not waiters coming to my dinner table.
With all that aside, I'll keep watching -- FOR FREE! Thanks! And when my wife and I start our "YouTube home movies" channel, we'll act EXACTLY as these people do. We'll take off our wedding rings, and act like "boyfriend / girlfriend bumpkins out sailing who need your support". It will be VERY fun taking other peoples' money for 15-minute home movies. Such a gas! I love it.
I also love how they ALL say "We need your help ($$$) to keep buying new cameras!" Oh really? They need $50K a month of new cameras? NOPE! Regardless, you'll never know we were "PortClydeMe". We'll just upload, and keep saying "We love you, patron brothers and sisters!" "We love you ALL, so very much!" "Thank you for buying us poor sailors beers$$$$$$$".

You keep focusing on the big money and only 2 YouTube channels make the big money. Most make less than $100 per video. It's not as easy as upload a "home movie" and watch the cash roll in.

No. You're incorrect. Just dig a little deeper.
WhiteSpotPirates (aka, Ms. Deutschland): 299 patrons - $1,013.00 per upload - if 4 uploads per month = $48,000.00 per year
Sailing Doodles: 235 patrons - $757.00 per upload - 4 per month = $36,336.00 per year
Rick Moore (aka, Canada Cat): 89 patrons (he began this year!) - $1,213.00 per upload - 4 per month = $58,224.00 per year
I could go on and on. It's exploding. We'll see where it ends up. Oh, and by the way, please go back to my first post on page one. Some of these people might NOT have the number of "anonymous" patrons (i.e., strangers) that their Patreon account states. They might be paying themselves to make it look good. That's what I would do. It costs nothing.

$48,000 a year is not big money like you keep saying $500,000 is big money.
