Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

There are some great channels, and some that just rely on clickbait.

I like this new channel, Kawai and still enjoy Ran

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

Here is a channel thats been around for awhile but not posting regular videos. Seems like he's going to post each week now for the next couple of months.
Pretty real and raw but ok quality.

Thumbs up Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

Quote:
* The SVVelos crew. Once again, how did that young man buy that 52' yacht and endless voyage? I think it even has a scuba tank compressor.
* Followtheboat. Middle aged couple with 42' boat. This one seem real. He was a DJ so their audio quality is always very good. They focus on education about liveaboard challenges

Have I been missing the best ones? Who do you like?
First, the boat in S/V Delos, a Amel Super Maramu comes standard with a dive compressor, ours is in a lazarete in the cockpit, along with the standard four (4) scuba tanks.

Here are some other we enjoy watching:

* MJ Sailing - Not You Tube superstars but pretty fun to watch.

* Sailing Nandji - Very old school and old boat. The couple are really doing it the old fashion way, and are fun to watch.

* For how to's and what it's really like - My friend Patrick Childress is a good one to follow, also his website Where is Brick House dot com

* Sailing Sophisticated Lady and Captain Rick Moore are good if you are interested in the Caribbean.

* Sailing Zingaro - Catamaran, but fun.

* Drenched which is more scuba diving, but they always seem to end up on someones sailboat.

Regarding how these folks do it... Patreon is one source of income, where people sign up to donate $ per video produced and these various YouTube channels have different levels of sign up. Also, YouTube pays them based on number of subscribers and likes. Someone below posted that perhaps La Vegabond has lost some credibility being on the new Cat that is on loan from the manufacturer to them. I don't think so, they have a great story and some fun, and they aren't hung up on themselves. Watch this short video on YouTube, it explains a lot and it's quite fun: https://youtu.be/dlfkE5SlF2g

Fair Winds!

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

I've watched so many channels.

The ones I always come back to are Delos and Zatara (as well as Distant Shores), I've dropped out of vagabonde when they switched to the cat, but still watch an episode here and there.

Lately I also watch Sailing Atticus, MJ Sailing and Shaun & Julia, all with more or less "fast forwards".

Some channels I watch only randomly are Gone with the Wynns, Drenched, and probably 20 family sailing channels but most lack the editing quality (kids take all their free time).

Sailing Magic Carpet

This one started out slow but has the makings a a great channel...a young swiss boatbuilder apprentice buys crashed boat, meets young Canadian, violin-playing girl who bought her first boat (60s era 6-Ton Pilot) when she was 18 and they start to sail the Med.

And boy, does she ever play violin. Worth watching just for that.

I agree! This has become one of my favourite channels. I loved the espisodes going through the canals to get to the Med. I think they are in Switzerland with the boat laid up as they work to raise money for the cruising kitty, but I believe they'll be back cruising in spring, with new adventures.

I've subbed 6 of those, follow 5 pretty consistently, and don't have time to watch the rest... and I'm retired. Seemingly every day there's a new one, and every day I'm closer to death; don't wanna lay on my deathbed and think "Gee, I wish I sailed more instead of watching YT videos", so I go sailing instead of living vicariously

Re: Youtube liveaboard stars?

Towards the beginning of this thread there was a question, how are they doing it?

This video may answer that question.
