Ask Boatie, and others how useful that Pension check is. I can tell you mine pretty much funds my cruising. Without it, likely I’d still be working.

The “system” usually requires you to work at some time in your life, for some interval. Either when your young or when your old, and it’s a lot easier when your young, and best in my opinion to get it over with.

Of course you can try to be a bum and love off of the government dole and or just make ends meet.
It appears to not be an easy life though

As to how easy it is, well, I think that depends on who you are, and what you need (or think you need).

I had no plan.. but many who did have a plan ended up the same as me.. living on a basic state pension because their Pension Funds had be blown with no redress..

I'm thinking the best time to go cruising is when you are young.

I got to see lots of older cruisers (retirement age ) when I lived on the Gulf Coast for 12 years.

I was racing beach cats then.

Many of the cruisers I saw were simply motoring the ICW and staying at marinas which is something I never really considered to be what real cruisers would ever do, but it seems to be the norm now for the old folks

That and having tons of backup equipment

For you oldies who are not on Facey I did a quick stalk and Tim and Co do not seem that young I think he is 36! Considering alot of us started being boat bums in our early 20s I think starting a Facey group for young sailors is when you are old yourself is taking the mick.

Snow Petrel and myself both owned sailboats by the time we were 19 and if we had started a facey group it would have had questions like how to grow a sailors beard and not bum fluff, how to drink rum like a sailor and not be a two nip screamer, the best way to attract a wench onboard. I think Tim is just going through an early midlife crisis.
