Young liveaboard cruisers

Just wondering if there are any younger liveabord sailors on here in their 20s and 30s?

I did find that in Spain you tend to get a few Swedes (usually), and a Fins, prepping to head to the Canaries. Seldom it seems are they out further east in the Med. I'm guessing it's a similar story across the globe.

Obviously there are plenty of younger Youtube sailors, and I know Matt (from Matt and Jess) is on here, but just curious if there is a decent number of the community on Cruiserforum.

Re: Young liveaboard cruisers

I'm 34. Cruised full time from 26-33. Now part timing it 3-4 months a year with the GF. Luckily age isn't as much of a barrier out there. By contrast, it's much harder to find 60 year old friends shoreside

Re: Young liveaboard cruisers

Myself 26 and my mrs 24 recently brought a 38ft dufour in Greece ( we are Australian).
I am also interested in knowing if there are many youngens out there,
We are obviously still a bit curious about nightlife/clubs in places we visit (not saying older humans aren’t) though it would be awesome to catch up with people In the same generation as us ha ha!

We plan to cruise for the next few years..

That's awesome. Congratulations.

I'm in Lefkada, in Greece....Hold on a minute, you didn't just buy that one on E pontoon in the marina here did you? If that was you, sorry I didn't come and help you flake your sail the other day. Got too caught up in talking to the Irish couple on the pier.

Re: Young liveaboard cruisers

...you'd caught us at 25 & 23 - back in '81, when we set off into the “wide blue yonder“ onto what turned out to be the first of 3rtws...
There were no people our age on the “bluewater rtw circuit“ then - & interestingly apparantly few mid-20ies now too...

Re: Young liveaboard cruisers

Meanwhile ....... there’s cruisers around that had kids late in life who are now cruising around with kids in their early teens. People in their 20s and 30s can hang with us 50s people, but the early teen age especially are pretty isolated.

Re: Young liveaboard cruisers

Welp, we are squarely in between the two age groups mentioned: early 30s/no kids atmbwk. Of active cruisers in Alaska, I've met...two dozen or so? AK may be unique bc we have so much seasonal work, but fully 50% of the people I've met cruising or liveaboard+cruising are under 40. Most of the younger couples (late 20s-mid 30s) have kids.

Re: Young liveaboard cruisers

I bought my boat at 31, and am leaving this spring to try to make it around the world (I'm now 35)

I went around Vancouver Island couple summers ago, and almost everyone we ran into was 60+ and retired.

For sure. My friends and I will happily sit in a bar and converse with older generations, hell one of my buddies was in his mid 70s, but as you say for teens that is probably pretty boring.

When I've met cruisers with teens, the teens would happily go drinking with people in their 20s and 30s though.

Got to be hard if you're a teen. You want to play sports everyday, chase girls or boys, explore abandoned buildings, experiment with drugs and alcohol, get chased by police, get in a little trouble, and all that jazz. None of which is particularly easy on a boat.
