Year long trip - what clothes to pack?

Hello!

My two friends and I are going to be picking up our boat in Greece and will be spending the summer on the Med and doing a trans- Atlantic crossing at the end of the year.

We leave in a month so were starting to plan what clothes we need to pack and how much. Given that we will be sailing for the rest of the year and covering so many different areas I would assume we will need both hot and cold weather clothes but I'm looking for advice.

Should we only pack for the summer and purchase warm clothes for the end of the year/crossing along the way? Pack everything up front and store the warm clothes for when we'll need it?

What have other people done?

How much should we pack?

How often are do you really get to do laundry?

Are there any lists out there that people swear by?

If there are cold weather products you like that are available in your country of origin, take those with you for when you will need them, and good foul weather gear for the Atlantic crossing. Pick things you can mix and match, to vary the outfits. Or, just pick a color and stick with it. Keep it pretty simple, but in Europe you will want decent clothes for eating out. Otherwise, "take more money and less clothing," Mark Twain's advice is still valid.

Re: Year long trip - what clothes to pack?

I once was on a flight leaving Hilo, Hawaii, with a woman carrying a snowboard. I asked if she was headed somewhere snowy and she said she'd recently come to Hawaii from Alaska as part of a world tour and that she was carrying everything she needed with her everywhere where she went.

My recommendation is, don't do that.

Take minimal clothing for the climates you think you will encounter. I use plastic vacuum bags to store off season clothing in, the beauty of this system is it reduces volume and keeps everything clean and dry.
