Re: Year 5 Costs of Cruising and Living On My Boat

Thanks a lot for this. Gets a little annoying seeing people posting you need 5k a month to sail/live on a sailboat because they spend all their time in $$$ marinas eating steak everynight and having paying someone $1000 every time they need a bolt tightened.

I have a nice house , toys etc... tend to go shopping for tools a lot etc. Tend to spend about 2x my "minimum" bills a month total. Last 2 months work was slow and i had 2k in extra expenses and cut back (still not exactly starving or anything) and cut back those "general living expenses" and the difference shocked me. Even cheap bastards like myself spend an amazing amount on little stuff. That $4 a day in energy drinks, that $20 tool we picked up, those 3 cords we ordered at 7 bucks apiece etc etc adds up big.

This is actually his results from 2021. Don is on year 6 now. I always make it a point to check the date on threads after I found myself replying to ones that were 5 and 10 years old. Sometimes it is relevent...other times not so much.

Wow! ..only $157 for electric..one would spend that much for electric per month at a ‘certain’ marina in SE Ga..

The big assumption here is not considering the depreciation side of things. If you factor that it, it very well could be.
Insurance will probably be 10x more expensive. Other then that you could easily be under that budget depending on your lifestyle/destinations.

Just noticed how old this was :-). How close did you get ol1970?

There is a Year 6 thread, really it is 6 years and I didn't write it up and you have to read the notes in the spread sheet to know the happenings. Year 6 was expensive!
