Re: World cruising in temperatures under 25C. Possible?

A bit if a smart aleck answer but...

Get 2 boats.

We have one in Newfoundland and one (that should be) in the Caribbean.

Covid.

Unfortunately, too many geese (all Canada Goose) don't migrate....

That is in fact an excellent answer and I know some others do that also. After having to leave my boat in Belize and being "trapped" in my nice home in northern CA during COVID, I have often thought of plunking down a reasonable sum for a small but seaworthy boat capable of coastal cruising here, as I have so often enjoyed in the past. Being able to switch from a pleasantly (to me) warm tropical climate to a bracingly cool climate and back, at will, and still be on my own boats, that would be perfect!

Conceptually there is a big difference between occasionally moving your floating apartment to a nearby country and living the life of an eternal rover, always seeking a new place to see with a perfect climate (and you know of course, you'll be moving twice a year).

In the first instance you will not be visiting new places much after the first season or two, and actually, you are more likely to be at a dock in a marina with AC and acclimatized to the out of doors summer heat. You will be a liveaboard and soon will meet a local girl and move ashore.

The second scenario, on the other hand, means you will become a sailor, a "salt" and your life will be dominated by preparing for and making the next big passage. Your tidy little floating apartment will become an offshore vessel. And the focus of your life will the maintenance of your vessel, the logistics of making international passages, concerns about weather and safety, and the time spent dealing with bureaucracy. The plus side is that you will have exposure to far away places and fantastic cultural variety. I think there will be little time for work if you intend to stay in your climate comfort zone 100% of the year.

But never mind, right now you are just daydreaming. Whatever you imagine now will be different in your thoughts in 15 years; that is almost a lifetime.

If you want to find your happy place 15 years from now, start exploring the options and find out what you seem to actually like, rather than day dreaming. For example move to a temperate climate and find a way to move onto a boat. At a dock you will have access to good internet and you can see what liveaboard life is really like. Or (and maybe as well) start becoming a sailor. Weekends, holidays, whenever, get out on boats and sail. One approach I often recommend is joining a racing crew. The skippers always need crew. You can do this for a few years and you'll soon know if you are going to be a sailor or a landlubber.

If you get into the boating life you will surprised how fast 15 years fly by.

If you are a good software engineer you must have a creative brain, you can figure out a way to try these options, now, and get going on your future life.
