Where to sell?

We are considering changing the boat. And are after thoughts on where we should be to give us the best chance of selling / replacing.

We have a 1980s Hans Christian 43 and are thinking about changing to something we think will be more comfortable in higher latitudes such as a pilot house yacht.

We cannot finance a second yacht and so must sell before we can buy.

It is a UK boat. And so is set up with 220v shorepower and generator. We are however currently on the USA. East Coast.

How much of a downside will 220v be on a boat on the US market?
Where would you go to sell such a craft?

I did consider putting this in the finance forum, but this question is about more than just the money.

Thanks in advance
Dave

Re: Where to sell?

I'd think the 220 would be a tough sell, if not a deal-breaker, for most people in North America, let alone the US.

Anyone using shorepower for battery charging, eg, would have to find a transformer first and god knows what rules marinas would have about that. Not to mention that all of your outlets will have the wrong plugs for any North American appliance.

But I could be wrong and if so no doubt the rest of the forum will let me know.

I think your best options are return to Europe or alternately sail to St Martin or one of the other French/UK connection islands and sell her there.
Likely a few buyers would like a nice boat to cruise the islands and beyond without the hassle of an up to 5Knm trip to get there.
I have bought 2 boats out there for that purpose, then sailed them back to the UK.
