"X" is a Hobo symbol meaning "Don't knock here, occupant unfriendly" among other things. Maybe X is the last and best part of SEX.

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?
We named ours after our 6 yr old daughter, "Coco Kai" (of the ocean) so she would feel more connected to the boat. Unfortunately in the Solomon Islands after many snickers and as we were departing, we found out it meant "eating penis" there!

We felt the safe way. After a full page of potential names that didn't quite fit, the wise words of Aughra came to mind: "You look like Gelfling........smell like Gelfling........ ya MUST be Gelfling!"

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?
SWEET, well just because that's what we are...
Funniest I saw was a boat we used to race against on the Firth of Forth in Scotland, We were wondering if her name (WIZGONNI) was a peculiarly Scottish one, but the owner told us that he wiz gonni caal her this and wis gonni caal her that, so he ended up callinhg her Wizgonni...

Nivana, she came with name and we didn't like it at all. But we couldn't think of one we all liked better and over the year of working on it and always saying, I'm going to work on Nirvana it just sort of settled in the minds eye. My wife said it's a fitting name because after a few hours of hard labor on the boat I forget all the other issues of life and enter a blissful focused state centered on something other than the job. So I think I'll keep it and continue to seek a state of Nirvana and hopefully she (the boat and the wife) will aide me in that journey.

All my boats have been Ahimsa. I found the word/concept when reading Ghandi's bio. It was his/Hindu term for nonviolence and peace. I found it after we lost our daughter to a violent crime. It has given me a sense of peace ever since. She always wanted me to have a sailboat and live my dream. I am doing that now. I have found Ahimsa

Rebel Heart
I honestly don't remember why we picked it but it's not too long and it's unique enough. Although funny enough there's a little skiff in the south somewhere with the same name, probably some confederate thing.

I thought about Ziggy Stardust, and the dinghy would have been Spider From Mars.
Too long, and too 70's!

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?
when i was younger and thought i would one day sail around the world i decided i would name my boat 'victoria', after the 'nuestra senora de la victoria' - the first ship known to have sailed around the world.
that was not to be, and i no longer have the desire to sail around the world.
but i needed a name for the cruising boat i finally bought. i happened to read a short story about an old retired englishmen who took up sailing which i enjoyed so much that i pulled the name (not his boat name) out of the story - 'one step'. if you'd like to read the story, and see if you can spot where i got the name, it's on the web at -

My boat's only 22', so, you're right, a shorter name does help!

Re: What does the name of your boat say about you?
I bought a charter boat called "Lolita". I don't fancy the name and wanted to change it but all the charter companies had her listed under that name. It would have been too big a hassle to change. But in a year or two when I retire her for my full time use she will get a name change to "Mausgras" ....
Anyone know what that means? .... hint, pidgin english from PNG
