My niece's business is yacht documentation and so I asked her what has been her favorite boat name that she's registered, her answer was that the yacht's name is Hers and the dingy's name is His. Have to laugh

'Haranee'.

My childhood name for my older brother who died suddenly when he was 28 years old.

As a toddler I couldn't say his name, Darren, and instead used to say "Harran". This morphed into 'Haranee' as I grew older into my teens and up until he died.

I made a promise back then that when I eventually had my own boat I'd name it after him, and so it is.

My beautiful Ocean Girl, a CD30 was named after a nickname for me formed at the hospital I worked at. They would all say in a comically puzzled way that I was neither fit for city or country life.. What was I fit for? And I'd smile and say the ocean (Ocean Girl was born. ) OG ( the boat) was sold early this year and darn if I can't remember her new name, it was good, I liked it.



My husbands boat, and now my boat, is called Rain Dog. one definition is a dog caught in the rain, with its whole trail washed away by the water. As we are very much nomads, this kinda apeals to us.

Brian is a Tom Waits fan, so it originated from this song

I was looking for something that was easy to spell phonetically, wasn't derogatory or could be misconstrued to be something else. I bought my boat to live on during an ugly divorce. The ex's name was Jo, so friends encouraged me to name the boat "No Mo'Jo" .... I resisted and went with "Nepenthe" which is a potion mentioned in The Odyssey that makes you forget your troubles and feel good.

Sad to say, Jo passed away last year ... Nepenthe comes in even handier now.
