Compromise. She wanted a beach house. I wanted a boat. So we compromised and bought a boat.

Re: What Does the Name of Your Boat Say About You?
Pukka Sahib ......somewhat imperialistic in sound, but literally a "good fellow".
Must be good as we have rebuilt from the keel up. Hopefully a best mate! (2nd)
Affectionately known as "Pukka". No relation to Puka!
Can't change the name as the ritual is quite unappealing.

Most people don't get how special it is for it to be just you and your skills making that puppy fly across the water.
I can't figure out what part of a woman's body the boat is like, though.

Re: What Does the Name of Your Boat Say About You?
This has been an interesting thread, but I was hoping to hear more solid, evidence-based testimony on the name changing bit--narrow escapes, scrapes with Poseidon, etc.
I am just now buying a boat, and I'll have to register her in another country anyway, so changing names doesn't seem like an extra effort. Her name is Senorita, which she's had for her very long life, and I respect that she's a survivor. On the other hand, I hate the name. It reminds me of a cheesy romance novel that I read (and re-read about a dozen times) when I was a moody tweener. The one with roguish Irishman, Captain Dominic Challenger, and his feisty lady love, Marisa della Something las Dios Whatever, the Countess of Alba and secret lover to Napoleon. You know the one...
I liked the discussions about changing a pet's name or spouse's name. I have a used pet, and I've never named her. I no longer recall the name that she had when was given to me, but I suppose I thought it was stupid, or maybe I just forgot. I call her "kitty" and she knows who I'm talking to, since she's the only other person in the house.
Anyway, I had planned to re-name her Salty Fox, which probably says more about me than it does about her (my last name is Fox). *But as usual, CF has crushed me in an avalanche of conflicting opinions that just make me uncertain of myself.

Hmmmm, 'Jupiter' wouldn't have worried too much about following convention, so there is your answer .
Salty Fox sounds like a perfect name and despite all the protestation here, the name you select says as much about you as it does about your boat. Go for it

Since you call your cat 'Kitty' surely it follows that your boat should be called 'Boaty'............... or just 'Boat' i suppose............. failing that, 'Salty Fox' sounds like it will work excellently!
