OP and others come here asking for help, suggestions (and maybe some confidence) from those already on a grand journey that it’s possible to make a leap in this direction. Someone suggests an inspiring story/book and the immediate response is “for every one” there’s a boat on the rocks?

It’s neither inspirational, helpful or true...

Look... I’m not advocating for it (even if it is the way we chose to do it), just saying that it can be done, and that it’s pretty irrelevant here as the OP came to the table with some skills, having taken courses and chartered in the past and looking for advice on even more preparation, so why the need default back to negativity or scare tactics?

If you read most threads on the forum where someone is looking for help getting started the overall advice is “sail your whole life from shore, then when you’re 90 ask us again and we’ll see if you’re ready”.
It fully depends on the individual.

All you need is determination and a good sense of humor.

My statement stands, the boat can do it comfortably, it all depends on the skippers decisions..
Don't push the boat, just crossing is breaking a record..
Reef early, shake out late..
Have a good nav system and AIS..
Carry spare bottled water 'in case'..
Good route planning..
Just because everyone else goes that way does not make it the best.. most only do it because everyone else does it..
The ARC is just some sailor called Cornell who wrote about his journey and found another cash cow.
Like the bible its not gospel just his decisions.. learn to research data and make your own.
